denver could give the lakers a run if they keep playing like this

not likely, but they might be the team best equipped to challenge LA

What about all the other variables? Who on Denver is going to guard Bynum/Gasol? Who can even begin to hold Odom's jock?

You have Billups who will abuse D Fish. Other than that, no one on Denver is such an offensive force that the Lakers can't take care of. Melo is a streaky shooter from everywhere, and Ariza/Odom's length will give him fits.

Houston has the best team defense in the West. They have perhaps the two best defenders in the entire conference in Battier and Artest, so Kobe/Ariza/Odom will have trouble.

Houston has worse offense and better D than the Lakers, while Denver has neither.

ETA: No one can defend L.A.'s big men, so that shouldn't even be a factor.

The fact that they're going home for two games with the series tied is huge for them. Hell NOLA could just as well win their two games at home.
