I believe the SEC minimum is 17. NCAA minimum is 15. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

also it has to do GPA the higher the GPA the score does not have to be that high in the range of 19 and higher in believe.

Correct.
Most schools go off of a prediction of academic success that combines GPA and standardized test scores. Same with graduate school, except that letters of recommendation weigh in on grad school acceptance.
It's a rather week prediction at about 9% accuracy, but it's the best that's currently available.

absolutely. Even at Duke and Notre dame, but they love using that excuse anyway.

My highschool had an ACT Prep class that you take for an entire semester and it helped me bring my ACT score from a 19 (as a freshman) to a 27 (as a junior). Every school should require it.
Posted on 1/31/09 at 11:40 am to Pleasenewdc
.....because if they did require it, some of these athletes would be able to get into the school they prefer sometimes instead of going to Prep schools or JUCO.

for the Ncaa , it is a combination of your gpa and act, but also athletes are allowed to combined their sections when thet take the test, but general students are not allowed to do that. for instance , on the math if an athlete make a 9 one time and a 12 the next, he is allowed to use the 12 to raise his score on another test

I don't see what you are getting at. Students face less of a cutoff, and more of trying to be competitive against the rest of the applicants. Athletes just need to qualify, it is a different process.

This actually depends on the school I think. I know some (most?) schools I applied to allow for split SATs.

They still have tougher academic requirements for their athletes than most schools. Especially in the lower sports. B-ball, and football, they might be a little less strict, but you still can't be an idiot.

I think the ACT score for non-athletes is 24 right now for LSU

Mississippi State allows ACT splitting in order to place you in certain classes. They don't allow you to split them up with all of your highest scores to reach a higher cumulative score for scholarship purposes.

Yeah, I've seen that chart as well.
Where do they get the 37 and higher from for the ACT, though? That's not possible. Also, I don't understand the 410 for the SAT, since it's impossible to get below a 600.

The ACT score represents the total of the four sections. Athletes get to use the best scores from each subsection (from multiple sittings).
Therefore, an 80 ACT= 20 ACT
Also, the SAT is math + verbal only
