Freshman touches: Harvin/Shepard

As a freshman in 2006, Percy Harvin had 855 total yards on 75 touches for an average of 11.4 yards per touch.
It has been said, and it's hard to argue, that Urban Meyer utilizes his talent better than any other coach in the nation. Utilization of talent is often a stated concern of Tiger fans.
Assuming Jefferson solidifies his hold on the QB job in spring and plays well next fall, I wonder just how much Shepard will be used aside from a package for him as a backup QB. Will he be used in a role similar to Harvin's, and if so how much? If we get into SEC action and he's picking up 10+ yards a clip, will he be allowed to touch the ball as much as we all hope?

That's only like 7 touches a game, which is completely realistic for Shep next season. Those who think he should get 20 touches a game though, are wrong IMO. The only way he should be touching it that much next year is if he's playing QB full time.

I agree that 20 is way too much to expect. However, if he is gaining 10+ per touch, I'd sure love to see 10 or 11. Harvin had a couple of minor injuries that season which probably held down his numbers a little bit.
What I'm wondering, perhaps rhetorically since no one on here really knows, is how often will they call his number?

How many touches did Trindon Holliday get this season?

That's kinda what I'm worried about. If Shepard truly does turn out to be a Harvin-like talent, he HAS to get the ball more than Holliday has.

Holliday isn't even in the same league as Shep. He doesn't have the elusiveness. He doesn't have the size. He can't catch.

That's why I do have pretty high hopes that he won't be underutilized.
