Unfortunately, many people still do. In both the majority and minority populations. The question is, what happens when the people who still care are mostly in the minority population, and how will we know when/if this shift occurs/has occurred?

Which Chizik clearly isn't. And from what I've heard it may have more to do with Gill being in an interracial relationship than it does with him being black but I guess they kind of go hand in hand.

They talk about it because it is still an issue. This recent snub of Gill seems to have some dirty undertones. On one of the talk shows on ESPN one of the guys said part of the reason he did not get considered is Gill has a white wife and that would not sit well at Aub.

Well he wasn't 5-19. He'd gone to numerous bowl games and wasn't on a ten game losing steak.

What is the big freakin deal? They didn't want a black guy for their coach. So freakin what!! I mean, Grambling, when they went looking for a coach, did they interview white coaches? Any school, when looking for football coaches, do they interview women? Who knows, maybe Auburn wanted someone who was coaching in Iowa and had a losing record. That was their criteria going in and they ended up with this cat from Iowa State. Who in the frick knows and why should anyone fricking care. I am so sick and tired and of this shite. frick the media, frick the SEC, frick the USA, frick the world...I don't fricking care!!!

sorry...having a bad day

It is a possibility that the powers that be at AU do not feel the samee way you do. After all, no one can come up with a better reason why Chizik was hired over Gill.

Gill > Chizik

In Auburnts defense, Chizik was apart of that incredible defense during their 04 undefeated run, and the following years Texas undefeated run for a national championship, so

His head coaching record isn't as good as Gill's but the dude knows what it takes to win in the SEC, defense.

the issue of racism aside, it's probably a poor hire for their program. They're going up against a conference chock full of outstanding coaches, and now have one of the game's best in their own state.

So instead of having someone young and innovative (color aside), they hired another run of the mill and losing head coach. So I think Auburn fans care.

In some of these situations, I think it's overblown. This one seems really weird to me though.

I'm with you there BMac, I see no other reason why Chizik was hired. They want someone familiar with their program? My a-hole. Auburn just fricked up.

Defense didn't win the SEC this year.
