Having moved here 18 months ago, I see there is a lack of local restaurants.
We go regularly to Southside Cafe, The Bicycle Shop, Camellia Cafe, Marina Cafe.
I have been before to: Young's Steakhouse, La Rosetta.
Any suggestions besides the chains.

Tom Fitzmorris always talks about Doug's, but I've never been there.

I have a few really great meals at Dougs.. I never really cared for Youngs.. Vera's is also a great seafood place. There is also that place Patons that is great.

Dougs was on Robert Road. Floyd Bealer was the chef who used to work at Commanders and Brennans. I heard it closed though.. But I moved so Im not sure.

Doug's closed. I've heard good things about the Boiling Point on Pontchartrain. The Los Tres Amigo on Pontchartrain is my choice for mexican.

Have you ever tried Schaeffer's? Its on Military Road across from Winn Dixie. I have always loved going there.

Palmettos on the Bayou is supposed to good.

Palmetto's has great food and a great location. I've been to Doug's but didn't like the style of cooking as much. Not to say it was bad, but just not my preference. For steaks, you can't beat Young's. They actually have no sign out front, all business is word of mouth.

Actually there is a little sign, about the size of a mail slot, on the door... Oh - and cash only.
I'll miss Doug's shrimp and crab au grautin casserole when I visit home...
For sandwiches of the non-gravydrippin' variety, try Palladium on Gause and Military (McDonald's side).
And Happy Dragon is the best Chinese IMHO (sorry - no buffet).
