Here are some stats I ran across for SEC games (no stat padding against North Texas). The numbers for Lee are projected for 8 SEC Games (He's played 4 so I doubled his current numbers for all of you accountants)

com-att % yds td-int
2003 Matt Mauck 138-223 (62%) 1631 15-10
2007 Matt Flynn 136-250 (54%) 1521 14-7
2008 Jarret Lee 136-226 (60%) 1682 12-10

Throw in the fact that Lee went to Florida and Auburn while Flynn and Mauck played both at home and I would say he's done a damn good job. Plus he's a REDSHIRT FRESHMAN.

I really like Lee. Could be one of our best ever before its all said and done. Lot of potential with this guy.

I think he will be a good qb once he gets some reps under his belt against good teams. However that takes experience which usually has its growing pains.

I guess he could be, but that's a big statement there.

Agreed. However everyone knows the most popular guy on the team is the back up quarterback as far as the fans are concerned.

One other fact both of those guys started or played in a major game before taking over fulltime as QB.

Mauck came in for Davey against Tenn to lead us to the SEC Championship.

Flynn started aginst Miami in a route in the Peach bowl (now the Chik fil a bowl).

If we had spent time developing Lee instead of RP, the misfit, then we would be in serious business. Given a little time and he will be fine.

Stats don't matter to some of these clowns. I have been very impressed with him and he has tremendous upside, but there are some people on this board that think throwing an interception or an incomplete pass means that he sucks. I guess he's the first QB to ever to that.

I think he can be a great one. Has the tools. Can someone teach him how to make reads? We have more than one receiver. Looks like he is ALWAYS trying to find Lafell and won't go through the progressions. Just seems that way to me.

In 100% agreement with munchman. Folks do not realize the damage RP did to this program.

He is coming along good, but he needs to change the patern of telegraphing the short out pass.

Yeah maybe Lee should complete less passes and then he could be considered a "game manager"

The good news for LSU is that it's not likely to extrapolate quite like that for 2 reasons:

1. A young qb is more likely to improve as the season goes on.

2. Lee has faced the #3, #4, #14, and #26 pass defenses in his 4 conference games. in the remaining 4, he will see the #37, #66, #68, and #83 pass defenses.

The good news for Lee is he has improved every single week. He is making great strides in becoming a great QB. Sure he still makes mistakes and he still has much room for improvement. But where as Flynn/Mauck were at their ceiling in potential, Lee is at the basement of his potential right now. He has so much room to continuing growing that by the time he reaches his ceiling hopefully he will be one great QB.

or maybe he could maybe throw somewhat accurate deep balls

after rewatching the game, there were so many times that DByrd and R. Dickson were open deep and Lee never gave them a look.

people leave DByrd single coveraged deep constantly b/c they know J. Lee won't throw it and if he does, they like their chances and would rather stop the run.

I'm sure he will get better with his accuracy, well he better, but the coaches need to utilize guys like Byrd, Lafell and Tolliver and throw the ball deep if they are in single coverage.

I don't have a problem throwing 3 strait deep balls if it's single coverage. I would hope we could catch one without it being intercepted.

It's single coverage, just throw it up there and we should come down with it most of the time.

I'd rather see that interception than a telegraphic pass over the middle for a touchdown

The passing game is definately a rhythm and repitition thing. He has shown he has the arm, now he just needs to add some touch and some confidence and just toss up some more deep balls. He's trying to string together some safe passes and move the chains. He's not trying to win the game. Easiest thing for him to do is just get the ball in the playmakers hands, then allow them to make the play. I think with time he will start to unleash the deep ball more often. We saw it twice to Byrd last week, hope it continues. I really do like the kid's progression

Usually it's running back at LSU, but not this year. Glad to see K-dub getting into the action more now, though. Hope he keeps working hard and holds onto the football.

I think he is capable of throwing the deep ball. He has more than enough arm strength. He just has to recognize that Bryd with single coverage equals TD every time. Bryd is just way to quick to have one on one coverage. It's a shame a wide receiver with Bryd's hands and speed will have graduated by the time Lee has gotten his feet wet. Bryd is probally the most physically gifted WR that we have had in the past five years. Bowe's hands combined with the speed of a Josh Reed or Buster Davis.

and start hitting the deep men

I think most Tiger fans like Lee's future. Very few "haters".

My only concern is when Lee makes a bad throw, it tends to be too high. I'd rather him miss low, to avoid the interceptions.

The good news is they finally let him show off the arm this past Saturday. He throws a pretty good deep ball. And I believe good things are going to happen if the coaches let Lee throw it deep four or five times a game when Byrd is in single coverage. It could be a touchdown, it could be pass interference or it could just keep the defense honest. Or it could be intercepted - but I'm focusing on the positive.
