Looking to buy my son a 4 wheeler for xmas. I keep seeing these for sale all over craigslist. Have any of you had experience with these? I'm guessing they are chinese knock offs. Might be TaoTao brand if my research is correct and they go for around $600 at the flea market.
Thanks guys.

General rule of thumb is that the Chinese stuff sucks. It will be worth your sanity to buy Japanese.

So I'm starting to fee better about these things. It looks like this brand has been around a while and I'm seeing multiple "dealers" around the south.
Was hoping to find someone who had a horrer story and tell me not to do it.

If I had a dollar for every one of these I've seen with red dirt on the flat tires not running I'd be rich mother fricker.

Has to be new? How about a used polaris 90?

At least if you buy a used Polaris you aren't paying for shiny paint perfect plastic and replacement parts can be found. Remember this is a four wheeler that a kid is going to test the limits on.

I bought a $300 version of these Chinese ATVs, a smaller one, for my 6 yo little girl and its still running great three years later. For my 11 yo boy I bought a Polaris phoenix which also worked out well. The Phoenix is big enough I can ride it but light enough that I don't worry about it crushing him in a rollover.

Absolutely does not have to be new. I priced used Honda 90's and Yamaha 90's and they were over $1k. I was hoping to be under $700.
Don't know anything about the Polaris 90. Off to google.

All kinds of Rancher 250s on forums and Craigslist - better long term investment even if it is used
