Do you readily give spots up to friends? When asked by an acquaintance will you give general area or are you super protective of your spots. I like people to go figure fishing out themselves,i mean that's what makes it so fun right? The reward of hard work and countless hours finally paying off. You learn patterns by putting in the time on the water.
I will however give up general locations to people from time to time.

I don't get to fish a lot, so I don't mind sharing my spots with people who share their spots with me.
It's usually not spots, it's times that matter here.
Y'alls fishing is better than ours though. except for largemouth bass

If I trust you not to be a dick about it, I'll bring you fishing with me to my spots. I'm not going to describe how to get there. I'm not going to draw you a map. I'm not going to mark it on a map. A person is going to have to learn my spots from fishing with me.

ETA - We had a backwater canal that we used to fish and would only see one local, Kermit, back there. Brought a guy from a nearby camp fishing with us one time. Next time we're out there, there he is in a boat full of people.... The canal started getting over-fished and we basically gave up on it after years and years of good fishing.

The limits are so restrictive here in FL that I really dont have a problem giving up a few spots or advice.

I will tell my neighbors exactly where we caught bass, or where the bream beds are.

They are just fish, if you make a living off the fish then I can somewhat understand being a little tight lipped about exact information.

I don't think any of my places are super top secret holes that nobody knows about. I have caught fish with boats behind me and in front of me. Fish move around they don't sit in spot so I don't understand why people think sharing their info is going cause some type of great injustice..

I am refering to Freshwater Bass Fishing. I do very little SW stuff. Maybe thats different.

I know a few people that won't even tell their kids where the honey holes are. Some people just don't want to come off of it.

I only get specific about fresh water fishing. When it comes to specs and reds, the most specific is gonna be a bridge, a canal, and a lure. 9 times out of 10 it is live shrimp. Not giving up any top secret spots.

But on the flip side of that coin I very rarely ask for info..and if its something that comes up in conversation I take the info with a grain of salt unless I know the person very well and believe what he is actually telling me.
