I am looking at a youth model Yildiz 20 gauge from Academy as a starter sporting clay/ duck gun for my ten year old. Does anyone have any success or horror stories with this brand?

Turkey (the country, not the bird).

I have shot and carried a Yildiz .28 guage and a 12 G

Both shot well, but the .28 didnt have shell ejectors? Odd. Anywho. Cheaper gun that will last you a few years. I don't have any complaints. and I think they are made in turkey?

Gun site I think

He wants to trap shoot and he likes the over under models, Academy has them for around 400 bucks.

All I shot were O/U's growing up; it's a little safer to manage a beginner shooting something with a break action than an auto IMO

Ive heard pretty good reports about their o/u. I was looking at a semi auto model and found a bunch of info on the o/u and most people had good things to say

I would think that a break action would have less moving parts and be pretty dependable.

I recently got my son a CZ o/u, I do a lot of bird hunting. With a O/U I can have him walk with the action open and know the gun is safe.

He has a single shot .243 and a bolt action .17, I think he should be able to do well with this.

Lil choupique has one... He may have missed a couple of times with it.. maybe about 6 or 7...

actually some of their guns Yildiz.. have great wood - some do not be sure you see the gun YOU are getting.

We are around a lot of firearms.. no complaints on the Yildiz. yet...

I got the 12 ga yildiz from academy a few years ago. I use it for doves and woodcock, and have used it for ducks once or twice.

I have not had any problems with the gun at all. Probably have run two thousand shells through it.

You can get additional chokes made by Briley(sp?).

One suggestion, when you go to buy it, ask to look at ALL the units they have. Find the one with the best wood to metal fit. They are not the most refined gun by any means... but look them all over and you should find one that is acceptable.

I found quite a few reviews last night and all were positive. It seems that they are Academy exclusive. My ten year old will be pumped when he sees the long box under the tree.
