I've got a pork bone leftover from a boston butt and was considering giving it to my dog, but I've heard mixed reviews - i.e., the bones can splinter and get caught in there intestinal tract causing them the peforate.

What say the OB?

I'm no expert, so this may or may not be true, but I've always heard that animal bones are fine, its bird bones (chicken, turkey) that you want to stay away from since they are hollow. They can splinter and pierce the intestinal tract. Double check me on the pork though.

I will not give my dog a chicken bone, but would give her a ham bone.

My lab gets sick when given bones. It messes up her stomach, and I end up cleaning vomit off the floor.

My lab ate two racks worth of pork rib bones and the only ill effect was a beat arse for getting in the trash, so I vote it's ok.

I order bone-on ribeyes and ask the waitresses for a doggy bag for the bone. But that's the only kind of bone he gets

This is what my daughter told me and she is a Vet. She told me she has to do surgery a few times a year for that.

My 32 pound mini dachshund loves bones. He loves chee-tos equally as well, but I don't know if that helps your hypothesis.

My dog has had at least 15 boston butt bones. No ill effects. Cooked round chicken bones are the only ones I will not give her. Lots of white poo results.

Probably not good for small breeds, but a large dog makes short work of pork bones. Bird bones are the biggest concern to me.

while I tell all my clients that it is probably best to avoid bones because I don't want to be the one who said it was ok then something went wrong. I will give my dog a long bone from a deer and sometimes a bone from a pork shoulder. Just take it from them when it starts getting small. I have seen intestinal perforations from chicken bones and also rib bones but its not common. They can also get obstructions if they swallow large pieces. The more common problem is vomiting and diarrhea. Again not going to happen to every dog but prevention is the best treatment.

doesn't matter, dog hides it in the woods.

Right? Yall have a had that happen, the check out stand real bone dog bone at tractor supply. You think, frick it, my dog will love this. You get home, give it to your dog, and it hides it in the woods and then comes back to the porch, never to see the bone again.

If I could speak to my dog it would be to say this: If you chew on this shite I would never have to even consider your dental care.

A buddy gives his lab sheds every year, the lab destroys them.

I'll let mine have pretty much any raw bones and cooked beef/deer bones.

Don't take my word for it though. I don't want the blood on my hands.

My lab never got any people food except at my parent's house. My step-mom gave her a ham bone and she got SAF in the kennel. I had to clean that shite up too. Sucked!
My vote is no to the bone.
