Anyone a fan or a hater?

I think those are all branded MTD crap. Get a nicer walk behind or save for a low end commercial brand.

Those are the cheapest ones you can get, but if you take care of it, it can last 10 years.

Yard man made by Husqvarna.
Husqvarna makes (Ariens riders, Poulon, Husqvarna, some craftsman, John Deere lawn tractors).
It Yard man is designed to compete at the low end retail level with MTD's yard machine.
Of course we have morons that think MTD makes everything.
These are the same guys you don't want touching your mower to repair it.
These are alos thr same ones that show up at my parts counter and don't know the serial number, model number, or type of mower they got except they think MTD makes it. 9 out of 10 MTD does not make it especially after they bring the part back that they need. My guys deal with these morons on a daily basis and my techs end up having to fix the damage these idiots do to people's mowers due to they don't know how to diagnose problems with mowers.

Wow!
Generalize much? The guy was just trying to help. The OB is a little less brutal than the other forums. A little less judgmental. Everybody really likes it that way.

so you show that MTD makes "just about" everything, plus you left out troy-built from your list which is also made by MTD, then you want to act like its such a far stretch for the average person to think MTD makes everything
when in reality, with only a few exceptions, "they do"

most mowers are pretty much the same and 90% of them are all MTD brand or B&S brand parts no matter what color or brand name the sticker has on it.
there are very few differences in the mowers as far as how long they will last you but the key is if they are taken care of and garage kept with regular oil changes.
the higher end mowers have better quality parts and will last longer but mainly those have bigger engines which is why they last longer because they strain less.
i see 10-12 yr old MTDs all the time and they are still in good shape so its all in how you take care of them
the best in my opinion are the Husqvarna because you almost dont even need tools to replace the belts. that is the things you should key in on, how easy it is to do belt changes and routine maint on them since the majority of parts they are assembled with are all the same generic parts from the same manufacturers

Unless it's MTD..

But alas, I'm no mower expert, nor will I claim to be. I just have had bad luck with MTD products. Saved for a Hustler Raptor with a Kawasaki and never looked back. I'll never own another Briggs engine, either.

Thanks for the advice, I have a 17 year old Huskvarna the real one that is about to give it up and found one of these in decent shape for $300. Was going that route to get me through the fall.
