Why is it a felony? What's the law?

I would have to look it up and there are a lot of them to review but the basis if it is that it is attached to a vehicle and it allows immediate access from the driver's seat. It would fall under the huge volume of laws regarding carrying a concealed weapon.

Yeah. OK.

In Florida, that rig is a felony. You would be arrested and charged.

Different states. Different laws. Hence the opinion by LSUwag. He is used to arresting people for this.

In LA the vehicle is considered an extension of your home and you can carry anything in it in any way as long as it is not an illegal weapon or in violation of some other law that would make it illegal (gun with drugs, fully auto, felon in possession etc.)

Sorry, but if I had that holster I would do exactly the same thing I do any time I have to deal with a cop around my vehicle. I'd have it unloaded and out where he could see it when he came up and the first thing out my mouth is to let him know it's there.

But that doesn't change the fact that that is a desirable holster for the exact same reason you're scared of it. Because it makes for a quick, natural, non-telegraphed draw. Which is pretty much exactly what you need if you're going to be in a gunfight from your car seat. Personally, if I have to get in a gun fight, I intend to do everything in my power to win it. That holster gives me just a little bit more in my favor in that situation.

You probably believe there's such thing as "Cop Killer Bullets" too don't you?

Faxis you have the right idea. Not to arm chair quarterback ya but you might not wanna be trying to unload it though if you getting pulled over. Could easily be misunderstood for something else. Otherwis all is good. Best thing is to leave it where it is, tell the officer about it, and follow his instructions.

ABOVE ALL DON'T say I got it right here and reach to show him. You wouldn't believe how many people do this.

I don't know how you can make that statement.
I have atleast 1 gun within reach of me at all times in my car. For personal protection. I have been pulled over before and the first thing i do is either hand the officer my concealed carry card or notfiy him where the weapon is. In la we can have a weapon any where in our car. What is the difference of having one holstered next to my seat or under the steering wheel. Yes, someone could use a rig like that to hurt an officer, but that is no different than if it is under his shirt. Sorry officer, that is just an ignorant statement. Drive around new orleans some and tell us not to have a gun within hands distance.

I want to see the weapon when I approach the vehicle. I want to know it's there before I even initiate verbal contact.

I respectfully disagree with you.

This isn't a good idea. If I see a gun in your hands and I can misread it as you loading it vs unloading it, it won't end well regardless of your intentions. Leave it be, notify me when I approach you and go from there.

Ya Who if he can see me, I leave it alone and just tell him where it is. Done it both ways. Last thing I want to do is get shot for being an idiot.

Yeah, you def don't want to grab the gun when being approached. The officer will ask you where the weapon is, and usually unload it himself... and sometimes dissasemble it..

I'm a LEO also and I have no problem with that rig. I would hope that someone that had it would at least act appropriately when coming into contact with LE. Don't reach for it to unload it or to remove it and put it in plain view. Leave it there, put your hands on top of the steering wheel and notify me of it.

I wouldn't assume that a person that has that is anything other that extra cautious and possibly a bit paranoid but to each their own.

fricked up law on Florida's part. I got fuzzed up at the OP's accusation that anyone with a similar holster is intending harm to LEOs. It's LEOs like that who harass law abiding citizens for no reason.

Actually that part is what I find infuriating . It doesn't matter if you see no reason to do it, as long as it's legal.

slippery slope, so let's slow down a bit.

One doesn't coincide with the other all the time.

A lot of guys I work with are extra paranoid and the like, but that doesn't mean they harass folks

I think it's a bit presumptuous to judge him as an officer or person based on his comment although I do disagree. Try to put yourself in his position where he has been trained to arrest people for having that kind of holster. It would be like if you went to another country and they told you that you didn't have to wear clothes in public. You kind of have it stamped into your head that it is illegal and wrong.

He didn't say he was going to arrest you for it, he said he didn't see a reason for it. It's an opinion.

But the reasoning behind it, which he and his state believe is asinine.

As for the holster, I don't like it. Looks like it could be easily dislodged by legs and can become stuck under pedals. It also could be dislodged by a traffic accident/robbery attempt.
