Xpress/Ranger aluminum bay boats

We have decided to purchase a boat for fishing. My wife and I have 3 kids that will likely want to go as well. We really like the Xpress bay boats. The dealer about 20 minutes from here has a 20ft with a yammy 150 4 stroke. Do yall have any experience with these boats? We will primarily fish lakes with a few trips a year to the coast for trout. Also interested in the aluminum rangers as well.

Great boat. I have the 20 with a 115 evenrude and it does well .Handles chop well and tops out around 44-45 the 150 should do even better

My buddy had a 20' Xpress with a 115. After getting beat up in rough water I bought the 22' with a 150 4 stroke. The difference is night and day with the area to fish, way smoother ride and takes big waves like night and day. Upgrade to the tandem axle trailer and upgrade the trolling motor to at least an 80. Wish I would have went with the 102. Would have to add a third trolling motor battery. Also put a bank charger and hydraulic Jack plate. I put cleats on both sides about a foot apart. The are never in the way and come in handy for many things, hope this helps and good luck.
Btw, I love my boat and so does everyone that fishes in it.

My dad has the 20' Xpress with a 150 2 stroke. I had the 4 stroke 115 Yamaha on a Xpress 17' bass boat. I love the 4 stroke Yamaha and his 20' is very nice. We use it bass fishing and chasing trout

Great boats, just don't expect anything to stay dry in the boxes.

I had a 20' with the 115 yammy 4 stroke. Great boat but like one said the storage isnt dry and the lack of ice chest room is not a good feature. They are great starter boats but with three kids consider the 22'. They are great boats and will fish just about anywhere you wanna go. Seapickle knows these boats very well. Best advice is I can tell you get what you want and the bigger boat, you won't regret it. I had mine for four years and sold it for a fiberglass 21' bay boat due to outgrowing the 20'

I agree with Whodat, I have the 18 and it's great for what I do. But, if you will be fishing 4 people I would go as big as possible.

I've been shopping for boats and this is one I seem to keep coming back to.
It has the look and the layout I'm looking for but the downside is the issues that a few people have with them.
I have also found that most boats,if you study them enough, have a set of issues all their own.
The dealer I am looking at is on crowley and the older man and woman seem to be good people.

Are any of y'all familiar with the Lowe bay boats? They seem less expensive than Xpress and seem to have better more traditional bay boat layouts.

I have the 20' Xpress w/150 Yamaha 4strk. It does good in mild chop but it's not the driest ride you'll find. I don't like that the boxes aren't sealed. There is a lack of deck space overall but it's a good boat that fishes well.
If I were buying new and set on aluminum hulls I would check out the Excel bay boats.

He's 100% correct. The storage boxes leak like hell.

I bought my boat in Crowley. People that own that place are straight up assholes, but they had the best price. Service guys are lazy and smartass. I just bring it elsewhere for service.

I have heard this from multiple people. Most people saw spend the little extra and go somewhere else to buy it.

Im gonna ride to Boats Unlimited one day this week at lunch time. They have Excel and Xpress. The dealer in Brookhaven has a 2015 20' Xpress with a Yammy 150 4 strk and tandem trlr with brakes that we looked at it. Im not sure how motivated he is.I did notice that several of the compartments had water in them. I want to see if the Excel is any tighter.

I really want to look at the Lowe Bay 22. Anyone have experience? Looks like a fine boat.

I'm curious about the Lowe bay boats as well. I like the 22' model

Thats what i meant also. Pretty good looking boat, i noticed that they use the .125 gauge aluminum only on the bottom of the hull then use .110 on the side walls.

Yea I noticed that too. It's hard to find reviews ... I wonder if it's a new model Lowe's getting into to compete with Xpress

Yeah, i'm figuring its a new model and not many have been sold yet. I wonder how their price compares to the 22' Xpress.

Nice boats, only down side are low sides for big water trout fishing. When anchored in the surf, the waves like to come over the front if its a lil windy.
