Squirrel or armadillo. If they go away in a few weeks then it was probably squirrels digging up their nuts.

Shoot the .45 round if you can. I don't think pellets from a .410 will pierce that shell.
Your best bet with neighbors and such would probably be to trap his arse. The hole is perfectly setup for a snare too. Not sure how to snare a dillo though...rabbits and squirrels is where I have made a snare before. Good luck.

Thats why i said shovel, with my pistol skills i have a much better chance with the shovel..everyone within a 500 yard radius would be in trouble if i started chasing that thing with a pistol in the yard
