no idea

ahh
“printing”. That’s the informal term that describes when the the outline of a gun is visible through a garment even though the gun is technically covered. This is generally considered a bad thing, and many people will go to great lengths to ensure that their carry gun isn’t printing before they venture out into public.

Printing = the outline of your gun showing through your clothing

The time thing; look down at your waist and imagine a clock

I notice so many people carrying now that I've gotten my concealed carry permit. Prior to, I don't think I ever noticed anyone at all. I can only assume others like me before are completely oblivious to it.

In summer, center of the arse crack IWB holster.very comfortable.

In winter, I wear shoulder holsters. Hell I could carry. Sawed off 12 gauge in winter and not print.

I used to carry in the center of my back. Until I experienced how hard it was to quickly draw it under stressful situations.

When under stress and trying to draw as quick as possible it was easy to get caught up in my shirt.

Pro tip: Carry lower and slightly sag your pants

This isn't the old west, if a gun is already in my face, drawing mine without a distraction gets me killed. I'm pretty fast on the draw, but unless you get thwm to speak, you're talking under 300ths of a second for most people.

That's your prerogative. But it's still a really bad idea. The only carry mode that might be worse is SOB (small of back - right over one's spine).

The OP is right to be a little concerned about printing. Handgun retention is important.

As has been stated, most people are oblivious -- but somebody who does happen to notice might decide to grab your gun. And it's pretty difficult to guard against, or react to, someone grabbing a gun that's carried at the 5:00 or 6:00 position. 12:00 to 3:00 positions are easier to defend.

If the OP is already carrying IWB, and if he's wearing a "fairly loose" shirt that's dark colored, or patterned in contrasting colors (like a camo pattern), it's not likely anyone will know you're packing.

I have an ongoing contest with a friend of mine (who's a retired LSP Sgt.) to see who can find the best "urban camo" concealed carry shirt. The concept is that nobody would suspect that your carrying under a shirt that covered with boats, or kittens or Hawaiian flowers.

So far I'm winning (See urban camo #2 below). Who's gonna suspect there's a Glock under a shirt covered with happy little dancing skeletons?

That's why I like moving it a little further back to 4 oclock. It eliminates some of the printing but still gives you a good position for drawing and maintaining weapon retention.

Anyone using the urban carry holster. If I was to CC I like what it has to offer.

That's pretty interesting concept.

Wouldn't mind testing that out.

It's definitely slightly slower, but it has more comfortable and easier to conceal. I know micro seconds count, but I don't think you're losing that much.

4 o'clock is obviously the easier draw, but I have problems with the butt of my grip printing pretty bad at 4 o'clock. I have to move to 5 o'clock before the grip lays flat against my back.

This is even more of an issue with the extended mag on my shield. But, I like the additional capacity and the grip with the extended mag.

I don't think it is that much slower.

Watching the video, you pull the holster up as you move your shirt out of the way.

The way they pull the shirt up with one hand as they draw is the same way I draw my weapon from IWB.

Like I said in the OP, I need solid retention in a holster. With the N82 Pro, it is very solid (someone cannot take it from me), but I draw it best at 5 and it is more comfortable there

Whatever you are comfortable and confident with.

And what you are used to. (Muscle memory)

I'm not a big fan of carrying different ways. I believe in finding a method and drilling it into muscle memory.

That's why I go Mexican carry. At times I have to so I always carry that way so it's natural to me.

Yeah, that twisting motion is a lot more natural at 5. I still feel like the handle or slide are like beacons saying "look at me" when I can see even the least bit. Hopefully that doesn't last much longer

It was a lot easier open carrying

Alright guys, I have a decision to make now. I can carry either the Shield or my PPQ. Obviously PPQ holds more rounds, and more is better. The Shield is just more comfortable to wear, and I'd have to tote around an extra mag to get the capacity of my PPQ. It's so much more comfortable, I've been wearing it for 11 hours straight now and I'm at home.

What would yall choose?
