I went to a WMA to duck hunt last week against my better judgement as i normally hunt a private lease. The lease was 2 1/2 hours away and i wanted to be quick so i went to a WMA an hour away. I got stopped on the way out and checked for all proper licenses. I thought i had everything i needed but apparently there is a WMA license i did NOT have and received a ticket. Anyone know how much this could run me?

What is the old saying?

"No lessons are free, and good ones are expensive."

Something like that, meaning it's going to cost enough to remind you to get it every year from here on out.

For $500 you could have had a lifetime license.

First thing i'd would do is go get one, that way when you go to court or call in you can very polity tell them you have one now, and your sorry for not reading the Laws. Most of the time they will reduced the fine.

I was told by the officer it was a class one. I called and was told it was a class two so who knows. I feel like they are out to punish whoever they run into. No exceptions. Ive never had any other violations.

Sounds to me like they are out to enforce the hunting regulations, but what do I know... Those WMA license fees help in the management and development of WMAs. They are kind of important. It is your responsibility to know the laws. Just the same as buying a regular hunting license or a duck stamp. You have got to pay to play especially on the state's land.

WMA $15 is to be paid if you want to frolic with a picnic basket. Not just for hunters. Anyone entering.

Isnt the $15 WMA license like a duck stamp? Or is it included in lifetime license?

This is not true fwiw. The $15 permit is a HUNTING permit for WMAs. To utilize a WMA, for bird watching for instance, you need either a valid hunting license, a valid fishing license, or a Wild Louisiana Stamp.

And the $15 permit IS covered in the lifetime hunting license. However, regardless of your use of the WMA, EVERYONE must fill out the self-clearing permits found at the check-in stations.

You are correct. I confused the part that if you are using the WMA for any other use without the permit you still need one of the other 3. Thanks for the clarification.
