Will the water softener in my garage harm my boat?

Brother in law said his water softener caused his tools to rust so now this has me worried.
We have Sear's finest, a Kenmore water softener in the garage. It is not contained and simply sits on the wall. See pic below. We have a three car garage and the softener sits just about in the middle of the wall. When I park the boat the Yamaha motor is probably about 6 feet from the water softener. It is where the band saw is. My boat is currently at the dealership having the oil changed.
Should I be worried about storing my Skeeter Bass Boat in the garage?

Can't help with your question... but damn, that is one clean garage.

No idea on harming boats, but can I bring a bunch of shite over to store in your garage?

It's a new build. We have been living here for 6 months.

I am not familiar with how water softeners work...do you have to add chlorine tablets to it or what?...
also, that is the cleanest garage I have ever seen...

No chlorine. I just dump a bag of salt in it every once in awhile.

Ahhhh. I remember those days.
Not knowing anything about water softeners, I would say your boat will be fine.

I think your BIL is fricking with you because he's jealous of how nice and clean your garage is.

Do you just leave the top off all of the time?

I had a similar water softener in my house when I bought it. Had to add the salt occasionally. The softener was located in a utility room within a few feet of the metal breaker box. No signs of rust on the breaker box and the softener had been there for 20+ years. I hated messing with the softener and removed it.

It's been said, but holy crap that's a spacious and clean garage. I would think worst case, you can put a de-humidifier by your boat. The only way the salt is going to affect your boat is if there is a lot of moisture. But then you'd have to find a place to run the drain line for the de-humidifier. But by the looks of your garage, it probably has its own full bathroom and kitchen ,so you can run the drain line there.

I can't see HOW one affects the other unless he stored his tools in the water softener & I think your boat is more than safe. It's not like the softener sprays salt air throughout the garage. I think your sister could have done better
Oh yea, not so subtle brag thread about the cleanliness of your garage

Does your BIL happen to have a pool at his house?
