Lot of fire around the LA State Police Commissioner. Will there be a change in command?

I think he'll be asked to retire. I don't see him surviving this.

Col. Mike Edmonson, the State Police superintendent, said he had not authorized the troopers to charge overtime -- three of the four did -- or to take such an indirect route to the conference, the newspaper reported. He said on Saturday that he has ordered an internal review of the road trip, an inquiry that he said could result in disciplinary measures and changes to State Police travel policy.

"It's embarrassing to me to say that I paid them to drive there, so I'm making them pay that back," Edmonson said, referring to dozens of hours of overtime billed to taxpayers.

I agree, he has been too close to too many issues, I think this one does him in. I also hope they fully investigate travel expenses and OT pay for the whole department, seems like this is a common occurrence and not an isolated event

Sneaking in a huge retirement bonus for himself at the last minute of the legislative session

Sneaking in a 30% raise for troopers when state is broke as phuck and all other state agencies getting cuts

Whatever the hell is going on with the state police commission

Who makes the laws? Senators and representatives or police officers?

I worked for LDWL&F when this passed. I had zero problems with it. Do you believe Troopers do not deserve decent pay?

He is the Burl Cain of State Police. He runs it like his own little fiefdom. This came out at a time the state was trying to fix a 300 million dollar shortfall and the optics are terrible. For the record there is no way in hell can justify sending more than 2-3 people to IACP. I have been a few times and its a waste of time and money. It was a state paid vacation for these guys plain and simple.

I have no idea and cannot defend this. I will assume that is true and move on. If I remember correctly, he sent 15 people to this too. Not good.

Does not matter what I believe, it is how and when it was done

3 out of the 4 troopers on this side trip have suspected payroll fraud for over billing OT and the fourth was not eligible for OT, that makes me think that this behavior is wide spread throughout the department

Their expenses were on top of tens of thousands of dollars the State Police spent otherwise to send at least 15 people to the four-day conference.

Second quote is from NOLA.com
But yes, 3/15 is not a good figure.
