how long did the approval process take after you mailed in your application?

and without going into much detail,(for your sake, not mine), explain to difference between

-collectors and manufacturers of ammunition

-manufacturers and importers of firearms

-pawnbrokers and dealers of firearms

*this is now a bapple thread, anybody that is not bapple is welcomed to comment, but I am really looking for a answer from him

Average timeframe is around 45 days. The differences between the different types of licenses should be self explanatory. Pick the one that matches what you are trying to do. OR, be more specific. What are you trying to do?

Back in the late 90s I considered going into the biz and getting one. Got the paperwork and had some questions, so I called the ATF hotline.

You'd have sworn I was asking how to make bombs out of fertilizer and diesel, the guy on the phone gave me the 3rd degree about why I wanted it, blah, blah, blah.

This was around the time when Klinton and "Shakes" Reno were harrassing FFLs as much as possible.

Do they still give you a hard time over zoning and a "brick and mortar" location?

from what I hear,(comparing to mid-nineties), it is worse, they will come to a physical inspection of the place you plan on operating out of

luckily for me, i'm gonna run it out of my other business, so having a business already established is key

it's against the law to apply for an FFL for the purpose of acquiring personal firearms, you must demonstrate intent to sell firearms and the means to do so

You will be checked and your records must be kept. Prior to issuing the FFL BATFE will come to personally inspect your facility and you must be in compliance

You do not need an FFL to purchase classic firearms

Pawn shops generally have no problem getting an FFL because they have the means to sell firearms, and the necessity of keeping records is obviously not a problem

I'm pretty sure I made it clear about "going into the business", this thread is not about acquiring personal firearms, IMHO.

glad to help
One thing they will definitely check is your means of preventing theft of your firearms in stock and your firearm parts

In other words you need to have a big arse safe and and security system

No, a safe is not needed, but it would be beneficial for your application if you had one.
