Casting, y'all understand when y'all get older. I'm not saying that there aren't occasions when I use spinning tackle but if given an option I prefer casting.

Idk. Guess I'm wrong.

Alx got you ruffled?

ETA: So when you said you prefer open faced, you meant both spinning and baitcaster?

baitcaster then

you know what I was talking about

No, I did not. You are also wrong about my intent. Closed face is a spincast like a Zebco. Both baitcasting and spinning are often referred to as open faced.

no...

I don't know anyone that calls a spinning reel "open faced"

open faced = baitcaster to everyone that I have ever met

It seems y'all need a lesson on reel types.

open-face spinning

Closed-face spinning (underspin)

Spincast

Baitcast

P.S. I've never heard a baitcast reel refered to as open-face.

I hope this clears things up for y'all. Myself I prefer Lew's baitcasters.

Me either. It's always been spinning (open face on rare occasions) and baitcaster.

Basically this.

I will add:

If catfishing out of pond = Zebco 808

Not ruining my good stuff on that.

Do an image search for "open faced reels"

Now I think you're just making this stuff up. Salmon is Ned.

I only use a spinning reel when bank fishing for steelhead. Everything else is a baitcasting reel.

I have used spinning almost exclusively the past 3 years. I find that I make some stupid casts from my kayak that would almost guarantee a birds nest. But next week I'm getting a Curado paired with a Dobyn Champion Rod for spoons and spinnerbaits. Will stick to spinning for most everything else.

If I like it, I may add more to my arsenal.

Spinning, because it's just what I've always fished with. A few months ago I picked up a Calcutta baitcaster and started attempting to teach myself and I've done fairly well casting out in the yard, not bird nesting, etc. Tied on a top water and brought it out last time I went fishing and gave up after a few attempts. I overlooked the fact that the actions between spinning/baitcasters were opposite. I couldn't get the action right using my left hand on the rod, right hand to crank to save my arse. Put it back in the rod holder and haven't touched it since. I either need a left handed bait caster or to quit being a bitch and just figure it out.

ETA: I'll bring it out next time with a spinner or a spoon or a jig to work bottom just to work on my casting technique.
