Looking for a place for me to shoot a new shotgun I purchased recently. Dont want to go all the way to Hunters Run. I live in SE Baton Rouge. Maybe Hoo Shoo Too area.

I think Hunters Run is the closest place. Unless you just want to hear it go off, then I guess you could go to precision. I guess you can shoot a shotgun there.

Why no Hunter's Run? That is the only legal place around to shoot.

I grew up in the country. Just want some open space to teach my son a little. Got him a Rem 870. Just a place to use a hand held clay pigeon tosser.

Went to river road today. We were going to shoot on river side. Didnt realize how high the river was. Water almost half way up levee.

I understand just wanting to go throw a hand thrower out in the country, but HR is a great place for a kid to go. You can shoot your butt off and have easy, repeatable shots to build his confidence.

That's a real good way to get arrested:

1. Somebody owns the land on the riverside of the levee, and apparently it isn't you. Shooting firearms on someone's land while trespassing is frowned upon in most jurisdictions.

2. Driving on the levee is a guaranteed ticket, especially when the river's at flood stage like it is now, if the levee board dudes catch you.

Go to Hunter's Run.

I've done it a good but in the past on what is now LSU property (was someone else's), and in a buddy's property. It's definitely frowned upon. Been stopped twice, but the levee guys are nice unless you are tearing shite up. I've even seen them help pull people out that were stuck in the mud.

Still illegal, but shooting out over the river is awesome

Hey Dawg. I dont need a lecture on private property. I simply was looking for a place to shoot a shotgun. No need to make a federal case out of this.

The Mississippi river is at record stages for this time of year, better hope LA doesn't take a big hurricane up the mouth of the river anytime soon.

I'm not sure -- I'll need to check with my wife and get back to you on that.
