I will try to rephrase my question as people seem to be missing my point. This is a pond that we have had a lot of success with wood duck and mallards over the years. This year it is basically zip on wood ducks. Nothing. You don't hear or see them flying at all. However, now we are basically getting all kinds of teal coming in. My question is why this year is different than the last 14 years we have shot ducks here.
To summarize:
We know how to hunt this pond and have had success on it for over a decade.
It's not like the ducks are just flying by they have left the whole area.
Hey, look teal.

Did your water oak crop fail this year?

It depends on how much you hunt it as well.. If you hunt a wood duck hole more than a couple of times a year they will abandon it and never use it again..

Is there another location nearby that now has water that once didn't

Woodrows can be finicky animals, shoot them good one year in a location, then nothing the next. I've seen it 100 times.

Same here
Ditto.

Teal told them to GTFO. I think it's pretty clear.

I use to have a badass wood duck hole on my deer hunting property (no one else duck hunts at all for sure and no outlaw problems). They still come the last few years but not 50-100 every am. Previous years before I would take 15-20 birds from mid/late December till season ends. Idk wtf happen.
