When is a good time to plant rye grass? Is it still too early?

Thanks.

The best time is mid-September to mid-October, but if you could get a seedbed prepped now, you would probably be alright getting it in by mid-november. Hopefully we get some rain, otherwise, I wouldn't expect much of a response.

I would say a few days before the next soaking rain in your area would be perfect.

La sports man had a great article on when to plant last week.

Best thing to do is check with your local AgCenter or NRCS office. They will be able to recommend planting dates for your area specifically.

I would imagine this is what LA Sportsman based their article on

Depends on where you are, if you have decent dirt and tillage south of I-20, you can plant all the way up to the new year for food plot or just winter yard coverage. For cattle, mid November is pushing it.

Depends on what you planting.

When we plant our athletic fields, they are prepped to where seed makes instant soil contact and will grow quickly. We plant those in early November. Or whenever the 85+ degree days are gone.

For food plots or pasture type Rye, I'd say early October as long as you have rain.

I planted some last November and in two weeks I had thick grass over all my dirt.

As long as you have direct contact to dirt you can plant any time between October and January.
