Due to this just dropping into my lap and me not being financially prepared for it right now, I'm going to pass on it, even though it seems to be a great deal. Just can't scrape up the cash for it right now... (aka: "wife said no!")

So if anyone else is interested, here's the info...

Got a buddy upgrading and looking to get rid of his current boat.

It's a 1998 19ft Century Center Console Bay Boat with a commercial 150 Yamaha 2 stroke. It has the 8ft Power Pole, 80lb thrust Minn Kota Riptide trolling motor and a Lowrance HDS-7 Gen 2 GPS. It has 4 brand new batteries, brand new boat cover and lower unit was rebuilt less than 2 years ago. It has been well maintained and runs great.

He's asking $7k but offered me the "old high school buddy" discount...

C motors are pretty good, that's all I know. It's almost disposable at that price point. If it doesn't have a million hours on the motor, you could run it for a few years and dump if the hull is giving you problems.

Not a bad price and a decent riding boat. Power Pole and new Batteries are pluses.

Can't go too wrong if that size boat fits your needs.

Same pole and gps that are on my boat.

The pole if $1500 plus installation, and Powerpole seems to consider everything "Under Warranty Forever."

So if you dump the boat, keep the pole.

Ride in it and get it checked by mechanic, if it passes that's a no brainer there.

the outboard is worth just a couple hundred bucks regardless if it runs or not
so, pay what you think is fair for the hull, trailer and accessories
to me 5000 sounds better than 7000 for an 18 yr old boat

check the transom for flex and the deck for spongy spots

Seems like a good price if both the motor and hull check out with no issues.

Everything looks to be in good shape. I'd get a mechanic to look over the engine before buying it, but if everything is solid, under $7k seems like a good price. It would suck to get something and break down on your first run out

Hey now old man.

I'm still kicking ad putting a smile on the old ladies face.

CB, that motor has some age. Price the boat for what it would sale for if it is a solid boat and then give another 1k for the motor. Repowering will cost another 10K with then the next year or two.

From my experience with Yammy's, they'll last forever if properly maintained. I know he got this boat only a few years ago and who knows if he was only the 2nd owner. So who's to say how it was maintained before him. I asked him if he had any idea how many hours it had on it and this is what he said:

quote:

If I told you a number it would be me pulling one out of thin air. I can only tell you that it runs like a champ. Maintenance has always been kept up. Spark plugs were changed when the lower unit was rebuilt and my mechanic checked the engine and all out in July when I had to replace the batteries. He didn't find anything wrong. I also just replaced the hydraulic steering pump in the helm about 6 months ago.

I've bought and sold my share of boats and have a fairly decent knowledge if basic mechanics of motors and such, so I'm pretty comfortable with what to look for. Even have my own compression gauge to check the cylinders.

He and I live close to one another and we're close to Lake P and several other waterways so I'm sure he'll let me take it for a spin. Like someone else stated, between the power pole and batteries alone, he's got nearly $2k into it, easily $2500 with the pole, batteries, GPS and trolling motor. He said he'd let it go to me for $6k.

Here's what NADA says about it and that's not including the power pole, trolling motor or gps/finder:

I think it's a good deal if the hull and motor check out. I just wasn't in the market at the time. I'd been tinkering with the idea of getting a new(used) boat after letting my old one go a couple years ago. Just wanted something bigger than my old one and this one would suit my needs nicely. He messaged me out of the blue today asking of I knew anyone looking for a boat, so that piqued my interests...

the power pole is the most valuable thing on that entire rig

What makes you think it will need new power? Those Yamaha C motors are highly sought after motors and nearly bulletproof. Even if he does burn up the power head, which is unlikely, it can be rebuilt for cheap.

That is a damn good motor. IF it has good even compression, then that boat is a great buy.

At 6K, it is a good deal. If you need a bay boat and you have the cash, buy it. You will unlikely find anything else similar at this price. and if it turns out to be a turd, then you can easily get close to your money back.

If it is running and the trailer is not about to implode then 6K is a good deal. You will catch a lot of fish for a fraction of the cost of a new one.
