The 2'x2' platform trick works good.
With my pup I been working, the problem I been having is that he moves his head to much watching for any bird.
Next weekend I will hunt him for the first time. He is around 9 months old now.

Is young. Just remember to be patient with a young dog and never lie to him. If you don't know it's there dot send on a blind retrieve.

I like gonepecan's answer. I have trained quite a few retrievers and always recommend to leash the dog while hunting. Too many dogs get shot in the excitement and just not worth the risk. You are asking for perfection from an animal which may pay the ultimate price for being too excited. And don't use e collars unless the dog has been collar conditioned. The e collar is the best and worst training tool we have.

Training hard headed Chessies more difficult than Labs. Might want to consider La Chessie for advice.
