Dad's selling his 2005 Boston Whaler 160 Dauntless hull. Has every option available, doesn't come with motor. Honestly no idea at a price point for a boat without an outboard.

*2005 Boston Whaler 160 Dauntless hull with all gauges, live well, bilge pumps, controls, etc.
*2005 MagicTilt single axle trailer. Tires are 1 year old and only have approximately 500 miles on them.
*Garmin Echo 501C color depth/fish finder
*Clarion AM/FM CD stereo with dual marine speakers
*Original set of pedestal fishing chairs (2) never used, still in plastic packaging
*Seat cushions/ back rests, used once or twice max, still in plastic packaging
*Stainless steel ski post, never used brand new (not installed)
*Perko dual-battery switch (one battery included)
*Stanless fold down swim ladder

What size motor does it take? I mean if you have it at $12,500 someone is looking at $25,000 at least to throw a 115 or greater on there. I'm not sure you are going to get many bites at that.

I'd definitely talk to some people about what a new motor would cost and get an estimate for an install to advertise with the boat. That way people don't have to do any homework to know.

Yeah I think it's a little high too honestly, but I have seen some around the same year with motors going for 18-20k and that's with older motors on it.

90-115, but I wouldn't put less than a 115 on it. And thats a good idea. Ill call around and get some prices to throw on there.

I look at the used boat market almost daily to kill time and you're gonna have to come off that a good bit with no motor. Even if it's in immaculate condition, hulls are a dime a dozen.

As others have said I would just try to explain to him that he's competing with $20K+ boats once the cost of rigging and a new motor is figured in, and his competition is water ready. Really just boils down to how bad he wants it gone, sounds like he doesn't really want to get rid of it.

ETA: Right now isn't the best time either, it's always a buyers market in the late fall. People looking to avoid winterizing, not many people with boat fever when it's about to be 30deg, etc. If he has a place to keep it out of the way I would tell him to hang on to it until the spring when folks get boat crazy.

Yeah that's the thing, he doesn't want to get rid of it. It's sitting in storage at our house and he doesn't need the money so he's just holding on to it. I think he plans on repowering it in the future but I'm trying to talk him into selling to put himself into a little bigger/more fishable of a boat.

It is a boston whaler though so like it or not they carry a premium usually well over blue book. I wouldn't take less than $10k for that hull if i were selling it. He may have to wait a bit to get $12,500 but i wouldn't be surprised if it sold for that. Biggest thing hurting it IMO is the length of 16 ft. If it were 18 or 20 feet i think it would be an easier sell.

Yeah I was thinking $10k as a bottom dollar as well. We had one guy that was ready to take it home but the boat was a little too big to fit in his garage. I think he should find a buyer eventually.

Yeah I was thinking $10k

i'd be surprised.

i'm no expert so this is just me spitballing... 16 ft, no power,... that's 8k-9k max. Your dad should just be on the lookout for a motor, repower it and then try to sell as a package deal.

yeah but the motor is usually what carries the most value. I bet the selling price on the hull is closer to $8k tops.

Agreed 100%. I'd be shocked if he got over $10k for that hull alone. I think that's high, and if he could get $8-9k I'd take it and run.

I get that it's a BW, but BWs are like pools are to houses. You're going to have just as many people who won't buy it because it's a BW and they don't like the way it looks as people interested because it's a BW. My boat dealer friend told me this awhile back and I've seen multiple times that it's a pretty accurate statement.

We sold a 2002 22 Skeeter with a 200 Vmax on it for not a whole lot more than what he's asking for that boat, and it was turn key ready to fish. Motor had a ton of hours on it, but that's what carried us. Never had any problem with the motor and that's a pretty desirable 2 stroke.

No motor is the killer since a buyer would have to shell out at least $6k to power it with good used power. With the original motor you could probably get $15k for it, but without a motor, more like $7,500 or $8,000. Certainly not more.

This and if the hull is show room new, top dollar might hit 7K. And that is really pushing it a lot.

16' used boats are a dime a dozen.
