Slowly starting to do my homework before purchasing my first 1911. I currently CC a springfield xds9, but would also like to have the option of comfortably concealing the 1911 as well. Does the commander sized 1911 make a big difference when concealed carrying it compared to the GI sized 1911?

Right now I'm torn between the springfield 1911 loaded - parkerized or stainless, and the springfield 1911 range officer champion.

TIA

Commander size is - generally, in that notch between G17 and G19, or between a Sig P226 and P229 - but with a slimmer grip profile because it is a single stack. Realistically, it is a holster gun that goes away marginally easier than a GI size. The "biggest" 1911 you can reasonably conceal with a range of clothing options is the officer model, IMHO.

That's chambered in 10mm right? Is that ammo hard to find, or is it pretty readily available?

i'm starting to get itch to CC again, never really carried any way besides pocket holster. may want to try out an iwb, just feels burdensome trying to figure it all otu, making sure its comfortable, concealed, no problems tucking shirts in etc.

Anytime you can't find it in stores, you will find it online. Use gunbot.net

Unfortunately 95% of the holster/concealment industry is tailored to people who don't even have to dress business casual for work. People who have cell phone pouches, people who can wear jeans all the time, or don't tuck their shirts, etc.

I don't blame them, it's great if you can get it. I'm just amazed at what works for people, similar to how I'm amazed at the EDC people who can carry a flashlight, notebook, large folder, key ring, matches and a Glock 26 in their right front pocket every day.

My only beef with the Urban Carry series is when I'm sitting. How do I pull it out if I'm sitting?

I have no issues concealing my two 4" 1911s.

I'm tall but not fat like KR.

part of CC'ing is making sure you are CONCEALING it, if someone knows, hey, that's a hidden holster flap... is that actually no longer concealing?

Picked up a full size 1911 a couple weeks ago. To my surprise, it conceals just as well as my shield IWB. I am fat like KR. IMO, I'd think it'd be easier for a smaller person to conceal than a person my size. The slight "love handle" action I've got going on would seem to make it bulge out more, but it's all in the holster. My crossbreed sucks that thing in tight as hell.

The Glock size preferably in a 9MM. Don't get me wrong, I love my 1911's, but for home defense give me a glock 9MM. With modern ammo, I'd much rather have the added ammo capacity and lighter recoil if I'm in a defense situation.

Full size 1911 is more comfortable and concealable than I thought. I carry it back to work when called in after hours and recommend the crossbreed holster. I'm not a whopper but not a little guy and it is a-ok.

I got a minimalist holster for my shield. Unfortunately I was sent the wrong one so I haven't been able to try it out. I've got an alien gear iwb but it's bulky.

I carry a commander size 1911 and it conceals nicely... A 1911 is actually pretty thin.. And usually thinner than a double stack compact gun
