What are your thoughts on the Nikon Monarch 5? I haven't seen any in stores, yet, but am interested in the 2-10x42 model for use on a .375 H&H for elk.

What scope for my new rifle.
I have a perfect Leupold VX-6 3-18x w/ Larue mount I'd let go for 850.
You in Baton Rouge?

Not familiar with this model. Are you sure it's still in production? Can't even find it on nikons site. They make a monarch 3 in 2.5-10x42 and the monarch 7 in 2.5-10x50

The Monarch 5 was introduced at this year's Shot Show, so it may not be in full production yet. I just want to find something with a wide range of magnification that can take a magnum lick... and doesn't break the bank.

I'll call our Nikon rep on Monday and find out. I would think it'd be perfectly fine for your purposes. I bet that H&H punishes you

I haven't shot it yet... I may stick a Zeiss Conquest (already owned) on it this week and take it to the range and see just how it handles with some 300 gr. Federals that came with it. Please let me know what you hear from Nikon. TIA

It should be fine. Nikon makes a great product for the money.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want a 12 or 14 power on a .223?
Posted on 6/27/15 at 9:56 pm to bbvdd
That's a .308 but I have a 12 power on my .223 and a 14 on 22/250.

I picked up a trijicon accupoint 2.5-10x56 the other day and I really like it. I got the standard crosshairs with the green dot. It's very clear and great in low light. The green dot is pretty cool too.

This was gonna be my suggestion. I think the adjustable fiber optic illumination is really cool. Plus I've seen how durable most Trijicon products are and bet this thing is a tank.

Did you ever get a chance to speak with the folks at Nikon? TIA

Ended up going with a VX-6 and will try and post picks later.
