I have finally got 95% of the tools that I will need to do most of anything that I could do myself. There will always be a need for more tools, but I can make do with what I have.

What I do not have is a Dremel or Dremel like tool. I could get by with other tools, but they seem cheap enough. Dremels range from $30 to a lot more. Features out the wazzoo, attachments that bake cakes, etc.

What Dremel do you have or want and why? I am not sure if I want a battery powered one (probably) or what size (small or large) I want.

Looking at THIS one, but not sure if its too small. The price is very attractive though.

ETA: THIS one looks good for home use too.

I have a black and decker knock off. I use it very infrequently. It's normally used for cutting screws, bolts, etc.

Don't be a wimp.

12V model

That's the one I have. That one and ab 18 year old corded version that still works.

That's kind of what I think this would be for. Get left on the shelf 99% of the time and only come out for convenience, not necessity.

I went to the store to buy one of the better corded ones but had mistakenly grabbed one of the more expensive cordless models but still gave it a shot. I've been pretty happy with it but my biggest complaint is it only comes with one battery. So if it dies halfway through using it then I'm stuck for an hour or so while it charges. However, I don't use it enough to remember to buy a second battery, so for now I'll just bitch when the battery dies.

Also all the cheap corded ones I have run hot after a few minutes so I'd let them cool down before returning to use. Not allowing them to cool usually results in a smoke show and no longer working. For a while I was burning one about once a year or so.

Get the more powerful model. I've had poor experience w/ Dremel batteries so I'd rec the corded model if this is going to be your only Dremel. Here's some more info Dremel thread.. You'll find the Dremel to be a very useful tool.

I had a cordless and it sucked. That was around 5 or 6 years ago though. I have two corded models and I threw that cordless piece of crap as far in the trash as I could. The battery would last like 10 minutes maybe.

Im sure the batteries have gotten light years better now though.

ETA:
Had to look up, I have 2 4000s and those 12V cordless ones are probably pretty good. The cordless one I had isnt made anymore. Probably a reason for that.

Probably had the same one, speed control went out first, then the motor finally let go. Was a piece of shite.

The multimax is pretty sweet, but there are better models than the dremel.

I have 3 different corded ones. IMHO, they are all the same. Motor is going out on the more powerful one, but they all have seen some heavy use. When the powerful one was good, there was a slight difference, but not much

I usually go cheap on the stuff I use infrequently and bought the heavy duty model at Harbor Freight for $20 and it's still running fine after 10 years.
