Why braid for inshore fishing? It will get the job done but it's serious overkill.

Tie your line to a boga grip or other scale and start applying pressure. Don't high stick it, use the backbone of the rod to apply pressure. I would be real surprised if you could put more than 10-12 pounds of pressure without the rod or reel seat failing. I don't buy into the abrasion and oyster shell explanations. I fish 100 days a year or better, half the year over oysters, and the only thing I have ever lost to oyster shells is bottom paint.

Maybe it's just my imagination, maybe I've become a better fisherman( ) but since switching to braid I've had noticeably less breakoffs, not that I was having a ton before but it still happens. I've pulled fish off of rocks and post/pilings that before would have almost certainly cut my mono. No stretch, stronger line for the same diameter as lesser strength mono, etc.

Greater sensitivity for light-biting paper mouths and far superior casting distance.

I am slowly switching my perch poles to nanofil. I just bought some 6 to replace the 4 I have been using. The casting distance in unbelievable compared to mono, and I do not even want to talk about casting fluoro. Tied to tiny spro swivel then fluoro or mono leader.

I use 30lb on everything but 20-30 is all you need and I find 8 strand braids to be better than 4 strand. Also, I put a 3-4' 20# fluorocarbon or mono leader on all of them. Gives you the sensitivity and strength of braid, the stretch you need with mono or flouro, and if you get hung up you don't have to cut off any real length of braid. Just retie a new leader in a couple of minutes. I use the crazy alberto for braid to flouro connections.

Also, I use a loop knot for all lure connections. Gives the bait just a bit more action that can sometimes get you that strike you otherwise might not.

I fish texas so it's a bit different than La but most principals are the same.

7' medium or ml for throwing tops and tails out of a boat. (13 concept A and Abu Garcia Revo Inshore)
6'-9" ml for throwing tails out of a boat (Lews Tournament Pro Speed Spool)
7'-6" medium for chunking croakers and popping corks out of a boat (super tuned Curado 200 "old greenie")
6'-5" ml for throwing tops and tails wading (13 concept C)

And another tip for you guys, check out Midcoast corks. They are far and away the best corks on the market. The outcast and inticer are the ones most of us here use. Both of them require and line and leader to attach to the top of the cork. Made a huge difference in casting distance and catches since I switched to them a few years ago.

Just use mono. Will improve your fishing and bottom line. Braid is overkill.

I believe that I got carried away with what test braid I got. I was more concerned with relative size than actual weight. 50lb (12lb size) for the Citica and 65lb (16lb) for the Orra, both Power Pro. Are these weights too much?

IMO it's bit excessive but if you're having success don't change. I use mostly 20 & 30 lb. but I mainly bass fish.

The only time I get to 50 or above is heavy salt water fishing.

Depends; if you're fishing in or around a lot of heavy vegetation braid is the only way to go (IMO).....gotta horse those bass outta that stuff.

All of my lines with braid have 30lb. I have not found myself in a situation where I needed more. Even pulling bigger fish out from under lilies or grass mats.

Power Pro Slick 8 is super smooth, casts a mile, and doesn't bury itself.

Happy fishing

This too. I have used 17# all the way down to 8# nanofil and I love it on spinning set ups. The castability with it is amazing. I can throw super light jigs a mile with 8# nanofil on my 8' slab rod.

one reel could have done both. My son just got the new Fishing Concept 13 for Christmas on a Duckett microguide rod.
Bad arse setup.

strung with 30# Power pro.
Mono back your power pro. at least 1/4 of your reel should be backed with mono. Tip the power pro with some good 12# flouro leader.

I wanted two setups. One for all fresh and most salt fishing I do, and the other for a bit heavier salt stuff but can also be a back up to the first.

Just looked them up. Reviews are incredible. Will look into getting one.
