I bought a shitty Mustad Boga knockoff. It shite the bed in less than a year and I want to get something else that is a little better quality. I like the design of the EGO standard grip tool. Has anyone used one? It looks pretty good for the money, I don't know if I want to go all out for the Boga brand. They sure are spendy.

I bought the Rapala Boga knock-off 6 years ago and it has served me very well.
Like this but the 20# version: Rapala Lock 'N Weigh
I think it was around $70 when I bought it.
ETA: Just found it on eBay for $45:

I have the $10 white one from Academy.
What's the reason for owning the expensive fish grips?

Breaking and losing fish.
Also the hoist, never forget the hoist.

I gotcha. So primarily for weighing fish? I just have regular grips for when I'm yak fishing. No grips for when I'm in the boat.

The Fish Grip is awesome in my yak. ~$13, light, floats, compact. Only thing it cant do is weigh but you can hang a grip and fish from any scale. I dont know how it would handle a huge fish but Ive never felt like I would lose a fish. I know a lot of people actually use it as a stringer to keep a fish healthy while prepping to C&R, tag, etc.

I do to, but for people who prefer to use them

Went through two of the cheaper ones before investing in a Boga.
They're spendy, but worth the price IMO. I have never lost a fish from one (the cheaper BassPro brand ones did), they have a pretty accurate scale on them and I have had it for 2 years now and with no maintenance it is still working just as it did when it came out the box!
And unlike some of the others out there, the Boga spins around, which is what has caused fish to shake loose while using some of the other brands.
