What is this shite in my St. Aug? It is very thin and has a little pinecone looking thing on the top.

It is not nutsedge.
Is sedge different than nutsedge? How do I kill it without killing my St. Augustine?

If it is Nutsedge they have things that you can do in st aug. I know sedgehammer works but would be pricey to do whole yard. I have seen some hose end application stuff that said works on sedge....maybe that new round up one does too? I bought some but havent tried it yet.

Roundup for lawns
Says it does yellow...but post above seems to make it a different kind of sedge. Not sure if it would work...
How did your lawn respond to the fertilizer and other stuff you have been doing

It responded ok. It is growing a little in the front. I see some stalks that I haven't seen in a while. I am going to cut it today the water it tonight. I sent a soil sample to LSU and should hear back this week. Thanks for asking.

I would at least try Sedgehammer. If that doesn't work, then it wasn't Sedge.

Herbicide products available for green kyllinga and plants in the sedge family contain halosulfuron, imazosulfuron, MSMA, or trifloxysulfuron. Be sure to select a product that is safe for your existing turfgrass species. The best control has been obtained when halosulfuron is applied in two sequential applications. Make the second halosulfuron application when kyllinga plants show signs of recovering.

Serious question: how the hell do yall know so much about grass? I mean is this place concentrating a bunch of ag school grads or am I just the outlier? I feel like such an idiot with my plant knowledge compared to y'all.

Roundup your whole yard and forget about weeds
Outdoor board. Grass is outdoors.
But yeah there's a good number of ag/environment/etc majors on here.

I believe there are more professionals in this field and related fields than you may realize here (myself included).
Not to mention all the people that clearly invest a lot of time and money in their yards, so they have undoubtedly learned about many of the common weeds that infest lawns.
