I think my wife is getting me one for my birthday. It'll mainly be used for white tail. Would it be enough for carribou, elk, brown bear?

It's enough for anything on this continent. It's a big badass caliber.

I wouldn't hunt brown bear with it because I'd rather have something made for African shite for that, but otherwise it's very versitile.

Will kill everything you could hunt in North America and could be used on plains game in Africa (even some dangerous game like leopard).

200 grain is a badass load. Zero at 200 yds is a piece of cake, is good to 300 yds, but the drop is about 12-15" at 300. I have one and really like it. I have killed 3-4 whitetails with mine in the last 3 years.

Excellent round to kill anything but it will drop like a rock after 200yds so take that into account if you plan on going out west

very popular caliber here in MS...used primarily during the primitive weapon season.

Started shooting one two years ago, haven't picked up a different gun since. Straight carnage

It's a great caliber. I shoot Barnes 180 gr.(more than enough for white tail and most anything else) but if that's not enough for you) you can go up to 250gr.. Enjoy it.

It's a kicking son of a bitch.

I shot both a .270 and 35 Whelen sighting in a few weeks ago, and I would honestly say it kicks about 15 to 20 times harder than a .270.

It's a hard kicking SOB for sure.

It's a bulked up .30-06, which is already overkill for little Louisiana deer. .35 whelen is one of the most versitile calibers for this continent.

overkill

I think this term is a little misguided. I don't think any rifle is "overkill" as they will all kill everything, some just do it more effectively than others. I use a .300wsm which many consider "overkill" but even the smallest does I have shot have had no meat wastage from damage and this is using Barnes ttsx ammo.

I use one for primitive weapon season but after that it's too much gun for whitetail

I have a theory on that that I want to test one day but that's another discussion.

You're definitely subjecting yourself to more shoulder and wallet punishment than necessary with a .35 whelen shooting deer. It's a cannon

The ammo isn't cheap and can be hard to find depending on where you are.

I shot a doe last year at 130 steps with one. I think the percussion killed her before the bullet got to her!!! LOL! Bad S.O.B.!
