Buying a new house and the backyard is covered with large trees. There is pretty much dirt where the grass should be. What should use to get some grass growing?

If I thin the trees, will this have to be a yearly occurrence to keep the grass?

I thin my live oaks every 3 to 4 years. Still have grass.

I have no trees but the part of my backyard that is shaded by the house the St. Aug is green year round and really thrives.

Spend the money and get Zoysia sod.

This will grow in the shade and it is an awesome blade of grass.

I have this same issue. The St aug in the back yard that doesnt have any trees is thriving while the shaded front yard only has good grass in a few spots.
