Get a better rest and try again. Check to make sure you scope tight. Do you usually shoot well? I wouldn't be happy with that rig shooting >1" at 100. All my Brownings shoot .75 or less and none have any work done to them.

I think I will try some bags or go to a different range that has equipment to use. I haven't shot a rifle is over 10 years which is why I think I'm the reason for some sub par shots.

You may want to get someone else to shoot it as well. That way you can see if maybe your skills just need some refreshing or if it's the rifle. If you were in Alexandria area I'd be more then happy to help you out, but........

Crazy,
Congratulations! Nice looking outfit. :-) I probably just missed it, but what caliber is it?
1-2" groups at 50 yards on a windy day w/ a questioinable rest and a brand new gun is not too bad. My recs:
1. If it's too windy to be able to tell the difference in accuracy of different loads, it's too windy to sight in.
2. A sturdy bench is great, but I've shoot a LOT of rounds through the years using something other than a concrete bench. Cab of pick up truck, loading gate of a pick up truck, card table, sheet of plywood over a saw horses, etc.
3. If you've got a Harris bipod as in the picture, all you'll need is a sand bag for the rear of your gun and you're set!
4. Be sure the scope base (w/ blue Loctite applied to the threads of the base screws) and rings are both tight.
5. Depending on the caliber, 30 rounds is a lot of rounds to shoot at one sitting. Accuracy frequently deteriorates as the barrel heats up.
6. You probably already did this, but be sure the barrel is clean. When breaking in the barrel of a new gun, I clean it pretty frequently. You can find a number of different protocols on the 'net.

I have a lead sled and I put two 25# bags of shot in the sled to hold it down. But the best way I've found is to turn my truck almost perpendicular to the target then adjust the driver side window height til I'm on target (rifle resting on top). Much more comfortable and a lot more steady. Now use the sled just to sight in my pellet gun.

start @ 25 yards. I want my .270 dead on @ 25 which puts it 2.5 inches high @ 100.

It's all about variables when sighting in. In the end you want You to be the weak link. The first variable I remove is the bench. Second is the rest.

When I was into it it I used a sand filled V shaped shooters set.
Now, I'd need that and some serious spectacles.

My protocol was shoot 3 shots, clean barrel with bore snake 2 or 3 passes then let cool down for 15 minutes. With a fluted barrel I figured that was long enough. I would then load 3 rounds of a different ammo and repeat steps mentioned above.
It was very windy which is why I didn't even touch the scope for adjustments.
