What do you enjoy most about deer hunting?

im sitting here watching some hunting in tv and thinking about the approaching deer season. As a 30yr old man i have anticipation like a kid waiting for Christmas morming. For me hunting has changed over the years, I think we all go through different stages of hunting. When i was younger it was see deer, shoot deer! Now i find more joy in watching deer, only taking one if i need the meat or someone else does.. or if its a mature buck. Im no animal rights activist by any means, but i find myself passing on more deer these days than shooting them. There is just someting about getting out of the house, no work, no stress, just me..God..and nature that sets my mind at ease. The best time for me is mornings, right as i get settled in the stand in the pitch dark, that 30-45 mins before daylight where i cant see anything. i can sit back in the stand and relax and reflect on things. Then as daylight breaks its awesome!! the birds start to chirp, the squirrels start to come out of there nest, the woods are waking up! I like to get a deer just like everyone else, but its those moments i look to more now than the "kill". What is your favorite moment? im sure some of you enjoy time at the camp with camily and friends, or im the stand with your kids, or mayb it is just the thrill of killing the deer! And there is nothing wrong with that, its how we all got started on this lifestyle!

Im not sure anymore. Quit hunting 15 years ago when my Dad passed. Just started again a couple years ago. I still enjoy it but its still not the same. Im sure it will come back to me with time. My son is ready to start hunting so I hope that will put the fire back in it for me.

Man time, then eating those delicious treats after they're dead.

i could imagine it being different after something like that man...and while i dont have any kids, id be willing to bet taking your son will DEFINITELY light that fire again and bring many memories for years to come

I really enjoy just being in the woods and the unpredictability of what will happen. In a second your hunt can go from being slow to one of the best ever.

this would be awesome, ive been fortunate my life to have enough private land to where i was never a member of a camp. But to have a camp with family/friends would be awesome. Every year me, my dad, and 6-7 other friends go out of state on one hunt per year and we have more fun at the cabin than we do in the woods! Great times!

What do you enjoy most about deer hunting?
1/ I like to shoot when I hunt and deer hunters don't shoot much. I like a good dove or duck hunt, for example.
2/ Sitting still and quiet for hours is just not me. Too hyper to enjoy that.
3/ Can't visit like you can in a duck blind or standing by two on a dove hunt.
4/ Just don't find deer meat that good. Especially if it went for several hours in warmer temps before hitting the cooler.

to each his own brother, it seems like your main problem is not being able to sit still that would definitely lead to not enjoying deer hunting. Enjoy your dove and duck hunts, nothing wrong with that

In fact I've offered to be the camp dog this season and cook, etc. When we camp for squirrel season, etc. I don't like to have to coordinate meals, etc. when I'm hunting so figured I could make their hunt more enjoyable by eliminating their having to do all that.

Some of the same things you said, watching the deer and their habits. Watching all the different animals react to one another.

For me it's spending time with my dad. We don't have a regular camp. Family friends for about 10 years or so have around 2000 acres middle Georgia and we lease about 800 from them. They have a guest house and a carriage house that we utilize when we're there. So other than being in the woods before the sun comes up like you mentioned, I just really enjoy being able to pal around with the pops. Making a big breakfast, setting up stands, sighting in our rifles, a little fishing if there isn't a good football game on, etc..
Nothing really beats a cool crisp morning in the early season and then heading in around 11 to watch some football. Can't really beat the combo of a deer stand and some sec football.

Watching deer easily. I used to think it was the peace and quiet but now that i got into duck hunting I get really bored in a deer stand. Especially when I can hear mallards quack from the stand.

Listening to the woods "wake up" at day break.

Just being out of town with no deadlines is awesome.
I like watching the woods come to life in the morning and quiet down in the evening.
Sippin bourbon watching the Burning logs, under a grill with dinner cooking is awesome.
Being out there with my dad, son, a couple buds or my woman is the best, but I'll go alone sometimes and enjoy the solitude.
Oh, and killin, I like to kill a deer or two each season.

When I was younger it was much more about the hunt/harvest. These days...not so much. I'd trade 10 bucks for a relaxing weekend with my dad and friends around the camp fire.
As I am sure, some of you can relate...hunting is just an excuse to get away from all that stresses man and afford the opportunity for companionship.

The shootin' and the killin'. Not necessarily in that order.
