I was just wondering if it is worth buying when I come across 500 rounds for $179 like in the link. I would not shoot this stuff exclusively, just buy some on occasion if a deal pops up on gunbot.net

On competition guns barrels and barrel fittings aren't cheap and the gunsmith typically doesn't get the gun back to you in less than a couple months, so figure in down time on a comp pistol in the equation as well.
Woah, it's going to be like that? I never told anyone to shoot steel-cased in a competition gun, and I never said it was cheaper than reloading. I just said that if you're not a reloader, steel-cased makes sense. Saving $100 per case will pay for a new barrel in most handguns after about 2000 rounds.
I shoot a lot of Tula/Wolf in my ARs. I can buy a new BCM barrel for $300...even if the steel decreases my barrel life significantly, the savings add up to much more than $300 over the life of the barrel.
I don't see how what I'm saying is ignorant, but to each his own. Obviously reloading is the best way to save money (or shoot more for the same $$$)...but if you can't, there is nothing wrong with steel-cased.

I'v never shot Tula, or any of the Chinese//Russuian..CZech ammo -- and I don't plan to unless I'm in duire straights.
