A ton of smart arse comments, and some genuine ones, and those like me who no longer have our dads to shop for.
Looking back now...I always stressed over what to get for him. He always had everything he wanted. Stuff I got him he would use, but it was almost like he had to make himself use it because he likely had something similar already. If I could do it again, I'd plan a trip...hunting, fishing, whatever. Something that he and I could do together. Doesn't have to cost a dime. Just a day that he and I could spend together doing something we loved doing. He would have appreciated that more than anything likely. And the memories we would have made together would be something that could never go away or get old, or broken. Man, what I wouldn't give to have another day with him.

Probably just some books and hunting DVDs or something this year.
Dude is getting half of his colon removed next Friday and the other half in March.

Damn, man. I had a buddy that had that done. I'm sure he'll enjoy those for sure.

That's how mine is. I'm leaning towards doing something of that sort. I don't get to spend much time with him now due to living half way across the country so any time I get to spend with him is that much more special.

I wish I still had a Dad to do something for. We really got tight with each other during his final years. He's been gone almost 27 years, and I still think about him most days.
If he was here and able, I would treat him to a good hunt and a fifth of his favorite Scotch.
On the flip side, if I could just have him back for two or three days it would be the greatest gift of my life. I lost him when I was 36. I am now in my early 60's, kids are out on their own, and I divorced in my 50's. I lost most of my friends to death or early dementia. So much water has gone under the bridge that I wish I had him around to talk with .... so much .......

Chin up, at least he won't be disappointed by the gift.

Hunting chair for the field that sits up higher. Also, thinking of an ancestry.com subscription. I like the restaurant gift card idea.
