FIFY

I would bet money that she showed a "girl friend" employee and the two later had a falling out and said exfriend reported it.

People get fired for ignoring company rules everyday that aren't against the law. Its a private company that has rules that are to be followed, or the employee gets fired simple as that. If there was a written rule that said she had to walk through the door backwards every morning and she didn't, they could fire her and yet its not against the law to walk through doors forwards

I agree its a stupid rule and that is why I make sure I can carry at work before I accepted my job, but that is my choice and was also her's when she accepted her job.

Didn't read the article, but I'm assuming it's against company policy. If so, the employee was obviously in the wrong.

I work in a plant and you obviously can't have firearms in the plant or any plant owned parking lots. It sucks, especially because it's in a bad part of town. But it's plant policy, so I don't carry in my truck.

Yea these rules are pretty effing stupid for this exact reason. Plants are also usually in the middle of nowhere. One single armed person could take the whole place over and use all the chemicals to do some serious damage.

But until something like that happens, the sheeple will be happy with the current setup.

Thats not true at all. I work at a TWIC compliant refinery and you are allowed to have a firearm in you vehicle OUTSIDE of the plant entrance. Now if you are parking inside the fence of the refinery you cant have anything, but outside of the gate you're fine. Just as this lady would have been had she kept it in her vehicle.

I agree with both the company's policy and their decision to fire her.

For those of you that disagree with this, blame those that file frivolous lawsuits. This is more of a liability issue.

You mean Mondays? And although the company was well within their right to fire her for disobeying a COMPANY POLICY, it doesnt make said policy any less stupid. I brought this up in a safety meeting at work which was coincidentally about what should be done in the event of a company shooting and i said we might as well stick our head between our legs and kiss our asses goodbye. If the right person with the right weapon wanted in, they could do some serious damage, unless the security guard managed to walkie talkie him to death.

Walkie Talkies!!!??? What!?

There are so many places that are defended by some "security guard" with nothing more than a walkie talkie and MAYBE a tazer. Besides that, someone could easily bust into just about any office nationwide and do serious damage. But they prefer us to be sitting ducks than insurance liabilities.

It's true for the plant I work at. Obviously different policies for different companies.

Eta: when I said any plant parking lot, I meant any of the plant (that I work at) owned parking lots.

If every employee has followed the rules of disarmament, I really don't think it is at all. Besides fences and some personnel, there is very little TRUE security at plants.

Nuclear plants are a different story. But your regular run-of-the-mill chemical plant is very porous.

Meh, nothing to see here. Private company, etc.

I do note that if she had a problem with the policy, perhaps she could have challenged it in some way rather than take a "better to ask for forgiveness than permission" approach.

Sometimes it is better to ask permission first.

The policy itself is like most gun-free zone policies: stupid.

I could be wrong but I believe there is some sort of federal law preventing those in the finance indutry from carrying at work. I am pretty certain stock brokers cannot carry and this could be the same for bank employees.

Not saying your wrong, but please reference that information regarding the financial industry if you can find it.
