3 out of 5 hunts this weekend i had deer within 20 yards of my stand. Not too shabby. They were either too young (young bucks) or didn't present a shot. Bow hunting is so much more of a challenge. I dig it.

If this weekend was any clue as to what the season is going to be like, I'm pumped up.

I took REB Jr cast netting Friday evening and caught a limit of really nice shrimp

How do you target/find shrimp? could I do this in big lake(calcasieu)?

3" number 5's, they are such a versatile shell, but damn those bastards kick through that light 12.

Killed 130lb doe with rage broadheads. Always been a muzzy man. Should have taken pics, the left a solid 2-1/2" exit.

Nice bucks on camera. Young one would not have been bad at all for a first buck with bow. Had good hunts just no shots on bucks. Passed on two small ones and had a large 8 within 15 yds but no shot. With a rifle could have shot several times - that's what makes bow hunting so exciting IMO. Had several does could have shot but LDWF feels we need to wait 2 more weeks. From what I saw - no need to wait, only one pair of fawns. Oh well, their time will come

That's really close to what my entire weekend looked like, but my choice was easier due to much younger bucks. Will be going back friday night to try again saturday and sunday. Still yet to get my first bow kill.

We just go off the weirs when the shrimp are coming out of the marsh this time of year making their way to the gulf.

I believe they have weirs around the southeast part of Calcasieu that would probably produce too.
