My neighbor let me use his 2,4 D to poison today but I'm not sure on mixing ratios and don't wanna kill my entire yard. He told me to put 2 cups per 4 gallons. According to this, is calls for way less. WWTOBD??

In my landscape days, we never used it for weed control. We used it to kill saplings on fence lines.

The guy who gave it to me used to be in the lawn business and said it worked great for weed control. The problem is, he told me 2 cups... I don't know if he meant 2 actual cups or two of the plastic cups he gave me to pour. He's golfing right now so i can't get in touch with him and I wanted to get it done before the wind starts.

hold off. that sounds like a lot. I used 16 OZ out of a 32 OZ bottle of the Fertilome self contained sprayer over the whole yard. Did this Sunday and all my broad leaf was dead last night.

Where can you buy that? I need some. I've always heard to mix it with Roundup for best killing results. I have some ridiculous weeds around my house that the Roundup doesn't kill dead enough.

I think your right per the instructions ... I'm gonna Start off with 1 oz per gallon just to play it safe. A big brown yard would look pretty rough.

1.5 or 2 oz per gallon is what almost all herbicides are made to be mixed at (at least the ones i use). Mixing extra will not kill more shite, just increase chemical runnoff and waste money. Once you hit either 1.5 or 2oz per gallon (depending on chemical) it has reached its minimum ratio for maximum effectiveness. 2-4D only kills broadleaf plants, so it is safe to use on your yard. It wont hurt regular grass.

Eta: if it doesnt have a surfactant in it, adding some liquid soap will help it stick to oily plant leaves. Some concentrates come with a surfactant. It should say somewhere on the msds.

It`s def. safe to use on yards for weeds. I know many people who do it and my yard gets sprayed every year with it.

My buddy gets me 2 4D also. What he gives me is in a different container. I mix it 1 to 1.5 ozs a gallon and spray my entire yard. Get some dye from one of the Nurseries so you can see where you miss. Mix a little dawn soap or Horticulture Oil with the mixture to make sure it sticks to the weeds. I will turn your grass brown but it will come back.

Well in that case use that

Not sure on the mixing ratio for the surfactant though. Should say on the label. ALWAYS FOLLOW THE RATIO ON THE LABEL WITH POISONS!!!!!!!

If roundup wont kill it, 2-4D probably wont either. Roundup kills dirt.

2oz per gallon is pretty much always potent enough with herbicides.
