Is there an official line on where you can place stands next to private property?

My place borders some Wayerhaeuser land and I noticed a brand new box stand sitting in the firebreak. I don’t care about the stand from a hunting standpoint, but I am concerned over where it is when it start burning in a couple of weeks.

Mfer, they burn where you are at? I have asked them to burn on our place for years.

Naw, the only burning will be mine. I would just like to be able to keep the fire break open. God knows if it gets over on them it’ll become a raging inferno.

You should be more concerned with burning Weyerhauser property than the deer stand. You either keep the fire on your property or you don't.

Just disc around the stand and throw some water around it. When we burn, we borrow our neighbor's water tank and sprayer that goes on the tractor.
Wind permitting, start the fire there.

They have never given a shite where we place stands. If it’s touching your property you could likely get them to move it, but if the fire break sits on their side which is common then they’ll tell you it’s your responsibility to manage your fire, and to widen the break onto your property. I doubt it’s worth hiring a surveyor to resolve and I’d just deal with it by clearing the edge, which I’d be looking to do anyway if burning.

The firebreak is there for a reason. I've burned this property for years, using their firebreak. I was simply wondering if they want their lease holders to put a stand up in the break.

Good idea. It's not the best place to start because of the prevalant wind direction, but I could pull it off in a small area.

Appreciate it.

Absolutely not. The lines are well defined.

Yes, but over time the fuel load build up still takes place. With the number of wild fires we had last year It seems they would want to maintain their breaks

I have often thought about a magical fire starting on my lease but not worth possibly going to jail.

Me too! We have easily 6” of leaf litter on our lease. A controlled burn would do wonders.

Gotta have sunlight, too, which usually means a completely different type of timber mgt than they plan to practice.

It's almost certainly a violation of their lease with Weyerhaeuser... but what good does that do for you?

It’s almost certainly not. There is no language in our lease about firebreaks other than they allow the planting of them for food plots without notice, and that a stand cannot block an improved road.

Nowadays that reason is to prevent disputes over trees cut near the line and to provide buffer for herbicide application.

No good, but as one poster pointed out, I can wait for the wind to get right and start the burn around the stand and then let it burn away. I just didn't want to the fire to reach the break and accidentally reach the stand legs.

Agreed, but I also believe it could be used as a wildfire preventative. Weyerhaeuser has given me permission to keep the breaks open and clean as long as I'm not doing it during an open hunting season.

Kudos to you for actually being a responsible and respectable neighbor. Too many people would just burn it to the ground.

I also don’t think it’s very courteous for them to hunt immediately off the property line.

Appreciate it. I’m not as mad at the deer as I used to be. However, I’m mad as hell at turkeys. LOL
