Wanting to install LED strip lighting on my boat

I can get the waterproof LED strip lighting on eBay really cheap. I'm pretty hand except when it comes to electrical work. I want to install 2 types of these LED strip lights. In my compartments I want to install the white LED's. On my deck I want to install the RGB LED's, the remote allows you to change the colors. I want to put all on one 3-position ON-OFF-ON rocker switch. What I don't don't is how/where to put the inline fuse and how to wire it from my fuse bus.
Any suggestions?
The next project will be to wire LED's on my trailer.

Be cautious with the cheap eBay LED strips
I had some under my cabinets and the burned my apt down in college
I'll post a wiring schematic in a second though. It's pretty simple

well... i'm in the process of doing this in my bass cat. just purchased the rest of the LEDs this past weekend and will be installing them this coming weekend if all goes as planned..... so no advice here yet but I should have some next week
but there are a ton of you tube videos on the subject... some good and some not so good.

you will want the fuse as close to the power source as you can. Does your boat have a fuse panel under the console? If so look closely as sometimes they have built in extra slots for accessories such as your lights.

Looking forward to an update!
Yeah, been watching youtube videos on this and just made it more confusing!

from what I have read and been told it's pretty straight forward. they draw very low amperage and the whole process shouldn't be too bad except routing the wires.

To give you an idea, 15ft strip draws somewhere around 3 amps
I'd run 5 or 10 amp fuse depending what length of strips you use. Also, I think the little control boxes you can get with them are only rated for a max of 15ft.

Wire and Fuse Selection
Since someone has already offered to get you a schematic, here is some solid advice on fuse and wire selection. Even though you may only need 5A of supply, you have to select the correct wire size to make sure that the fuse is the weak point in the circuit.

Cliff notes?

12v (+) source - 10A Fuse - 18 or 16 Gauge wire - Switch - 18 or 16 Gauge wire - led controller

Ask @Whodat. He Almost killed Redfish and a with a shitty led light wire up on Redfish's boat. The crappy connection melted Wires and almost left us stranded on the coast in that cold weather a couple of weeks ago

Yea don't do it that way...lol leave the wiring to CP3

My sons did our boat but used only white on the outside and blue and green on the inside. Easily done with a switch, inline fuse and then connect to the battery terminals.

Yeah I will recommend that you don't put white on the inside. Makes seeing at night miserable.

I run 2 16' straps of red leds under the rails of my boat. 5 amp fuse at the battery and switch on the dash. Run fused power to the switch and used the switched side of the rocker to the lights in parallel. Easy peezy. I have a few more straps that change colors that I want to run in all of the compartments but just haven't got to it yet
ETA: I did put a dab of marine sealant every foot or so because the adhesive on the lights isn't the best and probably wouldn't stay on very long by itself

Like others have said
Keep fuse close to the power source. That way the downstream wiring is also protected.

well I'm about 3/4 of the way through the install and it hasn't been too bad but I haven't had time to sit down and do it from start to finish. Only major problem I've run into so far was routing wires from the back to the dash because my gas tank is located under the seats. New bass cats have a lot more compartmentalized molding in the rear hatch than my previous model so I'm still debating how to handle that. Hope to have it finished tonight or tomorrow and I will try to post pics.
One piece of advice... always put scotch tape over fiberglass before drilling... will create a cleaner cut and the bit is less likely to slip. also will keep the fiberglass from chipping.

Yeah our nautical star was a PITA
Had to run from console to back of the boat then back up the side of the hull
