Have some buddies from Wyoming looking to go offshore fishing. I told them Venice is the place to go, but I'm not too familiar with the charters. I was looking at this one and was wondering if anyone had any experience or opinions. Recommendations for other charters are welcome.

Mexican Gulf Fishing Company
Paradise Outfitters

When are they planning to go? A lot of people are still putting their places back together from Ida

Yes, I'm familiar with the different times of year for different fish. I've had a couple bad experiences with charterers themselves. Just don't want that to be the problem again.

Pricing to go fishing out of Venice is insane. I went offshore out of the keys for less than half price what is charged out of Venice.

Hurricane recovery aside, this is the answer to your question.

there is a reason for that.

The tuna fishing is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better out of grand isle/Venice than it is out of Florida for one.

You also can’t go to Florida and catch 100lb+ yellowfin, swordfish, snapper, grouper and more on the same trip there. People in Florida like catching king fish and barracuda

Absolutely true. But the mahi and billfish are much better out of the Keys. Just depends on what you’re looking for. Tuna = Venice. Billfish = Keys

2 Days before IDA hit with Eddie. All but a couple of the blackfin came on poppers, it was an insane topwater bite that lasted for hours

Was high on Super Strike, we went with them this spring and granted the weather sucked and we had to change to inshore. All I can say is 2 out of the 4 boats, the captains were absolutely terrible! We spent over $10k with lodging and charters and told them about our experience, didn’t hear a word back! Rant over!

not sure where you fished in Fla but this is false. You can indeed target and catch swords, snapper, grouper and other pelagic in the same day. Yes, no 100# YFT, but can load up on mahi pretty much all year.

This is why I will never use Paradise Outfitters. Some years ago, a group of us had a charter with Hunter. We arrived at the marina a little early. We noticed the other outfitters were getting everything ready for their customers, but Hunter was not around. After finally getting in touch with him, he said he was still in the New Orleans area because the seas were too high. Every other outfitter was down there to meet their customers and offer them inshore fishing if the weather didn't break, but were ready to go offshore if it did break. Hunter was highly unprofessional and seemed lazy, as he was still in bed. A few of us ended up finding someone to take us inland, so it wasn't a wasted trip and a few of us just made the 2 hour drive back home, pissed off. I just don't want to make a 30 hour drive to have another outfitter give me the same experience. I understand they can't control the weather, but how well they accommodate customers and adapt to the circumstances matters most.

I can’t speak to your experience, but I have my doubts about your story. Hunter is one of the most professional guys down there.

I've been with Joey / Relentless and had a great time. The weather was shite and it was rough as frick, but he was ready to give the tuna a shot if we were. Let us decide how beat up we wanted to get which was cool with me. Ended up catching big snapper. Had a great trip.

It does me no good to make something up like this. Like I said, it was quite some time ago, so maybe he matured. I was simply stating why I personally won't use the guy and was looking for other's opinions on outfitters. I can not speak to your experience nor theirs, but do not have doubts about anyone's stories in this thread. Sorry you feel different.
