So I found a good deal on a facebook page, contacted the fellow and will meet him this afternoon for the exchange. What does the OB recommend besides a bill of sale and what should I put on the bill of sale?

Update: I'm safe, some young punks tried cheating me, I'm going delete Facebook now!

If I'm purchasing I don't put much thought into it. The burden is on the seller. You can get the bill of sale notarized if it makes you feel better. Everytime I've done a private sale the most we exchanged were names, addresses, drivers license numbers and wrote down the serial number and date of transfer.

Either pay with a check (cashier's check or money order will do) or get a receipt for cash and verify the ID of the seller (i.e., make sure that the signature on the receipt is of the person it purports to be). You don't need to do anything else.

Verify ID of seller. Hand money. Walk away.

That's about all I've done in the past when buying from friends. Never purchased from someone I didn't know though.

can't you have the sheriff's office run the serial number if you really want to be sure? other than that, nothing is really needed.

I would keep the messages where you discussed the transaction in addition to whatever else you do. If the gun has ever been reported stolen the messages (as long as he doesn't ask you if you're willing to pay in coke) plus some kind of bill of sale with a reasonable price on it is a cut and dry defense.

Meet up, look at gun, if it's what you thought it was pay for it, exchange pleasantries and leave.

I only sell and don't buy.

We meet publicly, we trade pictures of each other's IDs.

I snap a picture of their plate when they drive off.

One guy demanded a notary, I made him pay for all of it.

Only time I've ever felt sketchy was a guy in a white jeep paid me 50$ over my asking price.

Ask him to bring his dog -- so you can test the weapon properly.
