Anyone use them? Success? Tips that aren't online?

TIA

I bought a small one to use for white bass but have never deployed it. That is the best I can give you.

I think FLW and BASS have banned their use from their tourneys. I guess they work.

I was talkin to my FIL about this last week. Figured it could work if you got around sum specks, but then your fighting 3-4 of them... Sounds like a good idea!

They're both incredibly effective when used correctly and incredibly infuriating when not effective. In all likelihood, you don't currently own a rod that is adequate to throw one all day so my biggest piece of advice is to invest in the right gear to throw one.

ETA: And 3 hardtails will F-UP an alabama rig. I used one to catch some AJ bait last summer when we went offshore and while it was effective in catching 2# hardtails, they seriously jacked up the wires. It was mangled and tied in knots around itself. They didn't break it and I was able to un-mangle it, but it was shocking how much more powerful they are than similar sized bass.

Possibly....I use a 7' fairly stiff rod (I also use the same rod to flip & pitch). The reel on this rod has a 7.1:1 gear ratio.

They're great for catching big bass in deep cold water in the late winter. Most pros will say that they can't be beat in January and February. They're against the rules in Bassmaster tourney's but legal in FLW.

They will give you a damn workout! Your wrists wear out quick reeling those suckers in. I've caught some decent bass on them, nothing over 4 pounds yet. When they hit it, you frickin know about it! They smoke it!

Seen people fish them at Toledo in deep water with no stumps and catch while we weren't.
Only small bass, didn't see them catch any giants.
Heard it wears you out fast.

My arms/wrists agree

And how do you use it? Let it sink to the bottom and slow roll it in?

It's a awesome rig this time of year . You gotta figure out where the fish are to know how you need to fish it . If they are suspended 10 ft in 20ft water then it's pretty much cast and wind . If the are on the bottom you would need to count it down before engaging and winding . I throw mine on a 7'6 extra heavy Denali rod with 65 pound braid . It will without a doubt wear you out but you get used to it . I always use a Yum flash mob jr and rig it with skinny dippers or keitech swim baits . It's also a lot less red assing if you'll rig your swim baits on a screw lock weighted hook . You can skin hook your baits and throw it around trees or bounce it off of pier pilings

Thanks Ray...I know this is the best time of the year to use that's why I'm asking the question. I've tried the rig this past fall once the water temps got in the low 80s and last weekend without success. I don't think I was fishing it deep enough so that's what I'll work on this weekend.

I honestly never thought about that. I always use jig heads, and am really careful around stumps

I had one and intended on using it for bar fish and schooling bass in the summer. Of course I couldn't help it and tried fishing it every time I went out. Eventually hung it up in 20' of water and it was gone
