Bringing the garbage cans out I heard one gobbling towards the back of Bonescanner's place.

Decided to go get some coffee at the truckstop nearby and check out the inlaws before heading into work. Parked in the pasture and listened and think I heard one in every direction. Kinda getting excited for this weekend

I would be too, except for the fact that I have to kill a 300# pig Saturday morning.

I'll be taking off Friday for scouting. My first scout trip of the year. Yeah, I know. A little late, but it's better than just going in blind Saturday morning.

I cannot wait. This weather has been perfect.

I usually go in blind ( havent hunted in 4 years but when I did). These same places always have turkeys and nobody hunts them. If I didnt suck so bad I should be able to limit out the first morning but I still have fun

I'm headed up to the Homochitto this weekend. I talked to a friend yesterday and he said they were gobbling but they shut off early. I'm ready.

If this weather will hold out for a few more days you should start hearing some gobble mid day

This is true when it comes to roost trees.
Can one carry a .44 mag pistol when turkey hunting?

I went Saturday morning and didn't hear anything other than a bunch of people on the road before 8:00, so it probably wasn't a good morning in the block I hunt.

I think I'm going to stay in La this weekend and head back to the Homochitto middle of next week.

Any reports from the area?

And these are from Missouri a couple years ago, don't have any from La/Ms in photobucket at the moment.

Birds seemed to still be bunched up last weekend but that is easy to work around if you know their habits.

They have been gobbling pretty good on the limb and decent on the ground early.

With the weather pattern I expect to find some scattering/splitting up of the birds this weekend.

We had a river barge full of jakes last year so we had a good idea we would have plenty of 2 year olds this year.

This is my opinion from SW Mississippi.
