I would change belts,hoses,oil filter,fuel filter,air filter.

Add half a can of seafoam to fuel tank and crankcase, drive at least ten miles then change oil.

the quick connect ends for the heater hose on the intake is bad about leaking. we change them out and put a barbed fitting in the intake, with new heater hoses.

if the rear end hasnt been serviced since replaced,I would do that also and use synthetic gear oil. 2 qts.

get the idler and tensioner pullys and replace both. tell them you dont want the cheap ones unless you like changing them.

flush coolant. dont use well water

thank ya man

what do yall know about the "high mileage" oil? should i switch to it? heard things about switching oil types not being the best idea, but that may just be to synthetic... or maybe just an old wives tale

Exactly what happened to mine. But it would make noise before it warmed up. Once it was warm you couldn't tell.

But when you opened the hood and looked at my radiator fan pulley, that thing was wiggling all over the place.

Only took about an hour to replace though.

Piece of advice: Automotive forums are insanely helpful. I hardly bring my car in to get worked on anymore. I just check the forums.

IIRC, the bolts are hard to get to on the 5.3. Maybe the thermostat and block drain plugs are in a tight spot, can't really remember. Flushing the coolant also takes a while to do properly on every vehicle

remove shroud and tensioner and theyre easy to get to. I can do one in about 30 min with air tools.

Ive probably done a 100 of them though

Last one I did sitting on the ground with no jack and only sockets. Not fun
