Trolling Motor Problems (Bad boy is now running)

So, last time i went out my trolling motor quit working. Worked fine most of the day then just quit, didn't act like it died or anything just stopped working. I consider myself pretty handy, but i am absolutely horrible with any kind of wiring or electrical problems. I did the basic make sure there were no loose connections today and didn't find anything. What are some things to check out?
Fwiw, Minn Kota Riptide 70 with the "go" button( )down on the deck.

Check plug connections behind panel where it plugs in. After that take the cover off top of trolling motor and check for loose wires and any other connections. I had to fix the switch connection. It literally fell apart due to it bein plastic.
Also that 70 min kota is a piece of crap..I had to fix mine several times and it wasn't even that old..sell it and replace with 80 lb riptide or I pilot.

did you check for fuse or breaker

I opened the panel and check for anything loose there. I haven't popped the top of it yet. Do the bigfoot pedals ever go out? Sometimes while using it that knob wouldn't always work unless i got on it in the right spot.

Check the inline fuse breaker at the battery, probably got tripped

Also check the male plug. some have an internal jumper built in to make 24 volts. Sometimes that jumper burns into.

Yeah, I haven't swapped out the inline circuit breaker yet. Explain to me more about the jumper, confused on what you are talking about.

Call John Jones tomorrow and discuss your problem. If his wife answers you can speak with her too. He knows his shite.

I had a similar problem a while back. Went from working just fine to not working at all. I tried to find the problem for days. I was ready to shell out the money for a new trolling motor. Then I discovered the reset switch on my foot controller. Boy did I feel stupid.

Whoaaaa, haha where did you find this "reset" switch? Do they have these on the riptides?

Yes they do. I would check that first. Do you have a multi meter.

I'm not sure. I have a 20 year old motorguide. So even if I would have bought a new one it wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world. But since the old one is still chugging along I can't bring myself to replace it. If it ain't broke....

Mine went out Sunday on Seminole, spent an hour till I took off the bow panel and saw where the plug was getting poor contact.

It's your circuit board for your speed selector in your TM. Happened to mine. It would only work when it was turned in the right spot. They go out all the time. I replaced mine before I sold it. 15 minute job and $15. Advice: Sell it and upgrade to a digital TM.

Whelp, the trolling motor is running like a champ again.
I unconnected everything cleaned all connections, replaced the inline circuit breakers, and cleaned the circuit board up. After re-connecting everything she ran like a champ.
