Buddy just got a 18 foot surface drive, mainly going to be used to fish south louisiana and freshwater around the Baton Rouge area. Question is, have any of you used the freshwater minn kota's in the marsh and had them last? Obviously we would wash and flush it after each use, but didnt know if that would help them.

I had an 80 pound thrust Minn Kota Maxxum, and I never had any problems with it after going in salt water. Just washed it off good when I washed my boat afterwards.

there isn't anywhere I can't get in my boat w/ an outboard that needs to be fished. Just another maroon in a loud arse boat so he can be trendy. Have fun

I'm planning on getting the largest 12volt I can find for my 1854. Then swap my cranking battery out to a group 31 dual purpose. Depends, many bass boats fish in the marsh with freshwater motors but some marsh is saltier than others.

Probably because I was passed by no less than 10 boats this weekend while fishing with these loud arse motors on them that were not needed in the area. It seems like every newish boat I see now have these annoying motors on them. If you hunt or crawfish out of them then I can see the need but not for solely fishing out of.

Not everyone can afford a boat for just for fishing and a boat for hunting. So they buy the boat that can do everything. No need to be a dick.

Seriously. GTFO.

@OP, go with 24v/80lb man. I have the same setup on my 18' aluminum boat and I can't tell you how many times I was thankful for 24v.

The point is some guys like to fish in places not accessible with an outboard and can't afford to buy a boat for hunting and a boat for fishing

See bluemoons videos. You not getting to those places with a 24' bay boat with an outboard.

I read where he said the boat will be mainly used for fishing. Did I miss the part where he said 100% used for fishing?

I must have.

Currently running a freshwater trolling motor in saltwater but I just started. No input on longevity yet.
